Alphabet Song

This has got to be the silliest question in the world, but if I do not get this right in my head, I can't proceed! The song where you sing "A-a-apple, B-b-butterfly, etc."--how does that sound? I mean, I know the Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star Tune, but when I sing through this song, it seems awkward...

Scope & sequence - Content of 1st grade

Author: Rebecca Date: 4/9/2004 MFW1 focuses on a Bible timeline so Bible events and cultures make up the theme for the year. Around that, a very effective phonics program is wrapped. Using a Bible reader and weekly lessons the text gets steadily more advanced. For Science the focus is Physical Scien...

He usually has some activities from the MFW preschool to work on but he is absorbing quite a bit during Bible, Geo, and Science. He...

Hands on projects

In my last post Rebecca mentioned the hands-on projects. Those of you who have used Adventures could you give me an idea of what the projects are. Thanks Vickie Vickie, I am glad you asked! There are so many great things to do in this program, I'll just pick a couple off the top of my head... - Whi...

Author: Rebecca Date: 7/24/2003 MFWK is a wonderfully rich program with many activities and skills that could work for a mature 4yo. Have you taken a look at the MFW Pre school program? We started it with my son last year and it is a great precursor to MFWK. No worksheets, just several good learning...

Author: Rebecca Date: 7/31/2003 Susan, I had a chance to flip through GHA at a convention recently. It is really interesting. It is a huge book and also comes with flashcards(for lack of a better word) with classic artwork on them. There is a pack of what I think are reproducable worksheets or activ...

Timeline

Does the timeline only have 2000, 1000, 0, 1000, 2000, and ? Do I add more years? Am I supposed to put it high on the wall? If I do, how do my kids reach it? If I put it too low, how do I keep my 2 year old from ripping it down? Thank you. Leena Author: Rebecca Date: 11/2/2003 Leena, We put it abou...

Reading - Ideas for child upset seeing lots of words

Bible Reader vs. easy readers (author reply) My kids don't like reading the bible reader. I love it and made my older daughter do it, but now I am questioning with my younger. They much prefer reading easy readers. I think because they have pictures and less words on each page. Will we miss somethi...

Narration - Tips (author response)

I am using ECC with my 8yob and 7yog and will begin MFWK with my almost 5yo soon. I am really enjoying MFW!!! However, I have encountered some problems with my 7yog. She seems to be uninterested in anything to do with school. She does not seem to enjoy when I read aloud to her at all. When I ask he...

Date: 5/10/2004 Brenda, Do you find that your son can discuss the Bible concept better after the day 1 activity? Being such concrete thinkers, young children are often better able to dialogue with you after a real experience. For example, after a trip to the zoo we discuss animals for days because ...

Phonics - Does MFW teach 2nd-3rd grade phonics?

What about Phonics after MFW1 My oldest is almost 5, on his own has learned the sounds of individual letters and loves trying to spell new words on the ref with magnetic letters. I HAD planned on buying "Spell to Write and Read" (user-friendly take-off of "The Writing Road to Reading"), and I do ne...

Phonics - MFW approach for K/1st?

I am currently using ABeka's phonics with ds very successfully. He especially likes their phonics charts and flash cards. He needs lots of review. Does MFW use same approach with the blend ladders, or do they use a word family approach? I'm interested in MFW for my other kiddos moving up in the ran...

Take 3 flash lights and stretch a balloon over each, one yellow, one red, and one blue. Then when it is dark shine the flashlights on the ceiling. Let 2 colors overlap to create a new color. We had a great time with this with my dd and a couple of her friends.....because who doesn't love an excuse t...
