Re: Need Convincing.........

Lucy, thanks for your post! After reading people's comments, I did reduce the number of words they had to write on their cards and that made a difference. I'll keep the rest of your suggestions in mind as we progress next week & see what will work. I sure appreciate your time!

Re: Need Convincing.........

Thanks again for the newly given advice! I haven't completely decided, or felt led to go either way. However, I did decide to scale back on the amount of work involved with it. That went better yesterday & today. You all gave me some great ideas on how to keep the Latin but just make it less involve...

Re: Need Convincing.........

Thanks to you all for your replies. I am still not convinced WHY Latin is so important. Greek, I understood - it helps in Bible study. Why Latin? Is it really going to make THAT much of a difference in the understanding of word meanings? We do not use ILL (going to re-try PLL with my 2nd grader dd -...

We used to go once a week, every Thursday, and that worked great for remembering! However, as others have mentioned, we have two baskets (hanging file folder plastic cubes) that we keep the library books in in the living room. They MUST be returned to those baskets when done reading. The baskets wor...

have all you MFW folks only used MFW

I'm new to MFW. Just bought my box this past Friday at our local homeschool bookfair. I heard David Hazell give a seminar, loved the philosophy... Here is my question. So do we just drop what we've been doing? Do we stop the other stuff cold AND... have all you MFW folks only used MFW to teach read...

Posted: Mon Oct 16, 2006 1:18 pm We did Adv last year with oldest in 2nd and twins in MFWK. Now doing ECC, I am SO GLAD we had ADV available. ECC is SO much more involved and has been a struggle even for my 3rd grader. Yes, the geography is GREAT, but they wouldn't have picked up nearly as much las...

Posted: Tue Aug 29, 2006 12:31 pm I am in almost the exact situation you are, also. We have a 3rd grader doing ECC, twins doing MFW1, and a preschooler . We are in our 3rd week. I am really hoping the suggested schedule will work eventually. However, this is our "back-up" schedule which is very sim...

I am not a "certified" teacher, but my advice is to not even worry about the letter names for now. My son was similar in that he had a VERY hard time figuring out the letter names, but he got he sounds right away. At first it bothered me (didn't help that he was 5 and his 2 year old cousing knew all...
