Posted: Tue Dec 12, 2006 1:32 am Shelley, It has been three years since our year in CTG, but I can say....our family was impacted in such a way that we still celebrate a couple of the chosen ideals from OT year. We still do Hanukkah, light the menorah, and play the dreidel. This year we will be cel...

Feasts - What if we start CTG in January?

Hi, I just received my CTG and have a question. We will be starting in January so I'm thinking that the feasts won't hit at the "appropriate" time. Does this matter? Can I just do them when we get to them in the schedule? If I try to do them at the "appropriate" time, can I just do the feasts, or w...

In regards to the 3R's this means textbooks are NOt being used in all the subjects for the 3-4 hours. Consider using MFW Language and math recommendations to lighten the load.

Posted: Tue Jul 11, 2006 11:46 pm A very low budget and simple idea would be to purchase the addition/subtraction math fact charts from MFW @ $2.50 total cost for two charts. They are simple and effective charts that you put over a blank sheet of paper to fill in the answers. The point of using the...

"In addition" (do you like that clause?), we have used the board game Arithmachips. It is like checkers, but in order to jump a chip (checkers would be the comparison) you have to do the math fact and get it correct.

I would like to share a book that we use. The title is "24-Hours of Peace-&-Quiet!" Clever title, isn't it?

"A unique coloring book consisting of optical illusions and geometrical shapes."

You can download it free on the following web:

Dawn,

Spelling power has a great activity pack you can purchase separate for the ideas to help in spelling. When your child is ready for the next level in spelling, you would then purchase the spelling power book. This book will be used all the way through high school.

Nancy, If I may try to help you with your full question.... You do need all the [student] sheets for each child. As well as the presidents cards. The laminated place mat/US map will be used each year of American History for recognition activities. Same with the presidents cards. As mentioned in a pr...

Just a final note to all the frustrated and isolated....when my children were younger, I began to do MFW meetings in my home. I opened my home to other hs families, not just MFW families. We would share our needs and encourage one another. I figured, I do not have family here, I do not have the fund...

Crystal, We did the chia's! I think it was more effective for us because we are a bit silly when it comes to science. One thing you may want to plan ahead on is investing in some sort of flower press book and art book for the thick paper. This was good for us, as we went through our botany study we ...

Here are some tips: When we did MFWK I gained great miles from the Greg and Steve CD Kid's In Motion. I would take the blue alphabet cards and play hide and seek with them in a specific area of the home. When a child (I have 3) would find the letter they got to pick lunch. Some times if we were on l...

I just wanted to say all the points are very good regarding being isolated, and it is so easy for the feeling of isolation to creep into our homes.
