Re: Why can't I find any long term MFW users?

I'm late in jumping in on this conversation, but I wanted to reply. I'm not a really long time user (only four years), but I'm a devoted user who plans to go with MFW for the duration of our schooling (which means another 10 years!). I don't post on any boards hardly at all (I had forgotten my log i...

Re: Discover Trunks

Missouri's conservation commission has "Discovery Trunks" that can be checked out two weeks at a time. They have many different topics to choose from (bats, trees, birds, etc) and I am going to get the owl pellets from the conservation commission. The benefit to using the trunks is that they are fr...

Re: General ideas for Bible: The Book of James

I wanted to chime in on something I did this year for Boy, Have I Got Problems . I took the three books (I have three in EX1850) to Office Depot and had them spiral bind all three (cost less than $10, about $2 apiece). I requested that they remove the pages in the back with the text (worksheets) and...

Re: A Schedule Board?

Wow. Thanks for all the inspirational ideas. We have currently been using a chart that I print out that has two weeks on one side. By using both sides I can get four weeks' worth of work on one page. I just fill in the grid with page numbers and assignments. I then slip it in the cover of my son's t...

Re: A Schedule Board?

Thank you for the replies. I have skimmed through the threads and found a number of things that I think I will start with and then tweak it as we go along. I just needed some inspiration to get me going. It also opened up all kinds of ideas in other areas as well. Lots of good information! Thanks!

Re: Wall Map

I hAd mine laminated at a printer store. It didn't cost a lot and it really has kept it looking nice. I had to call around and find a place with a large enough laminating machine but I found one. And I am very pleased.
I highly recommend looking into it.

Re: student sheets

This is my first year using MFW. I "struggled" with this decision too. What I ended up using is an expandable file folder. The kind with all the different dividers built in and the elastic closure on the outside to keep it closed. I am doing K, 1st and ECC this year and they all fit in there in diff...

Finished WK 3 of ECC / WK 1 of K / Day 2 of 1st

Do you teach the kids all separately and how do you schedule it all out? I am doing CtG with a fifth grader and First with two children. I am having a hard time figuring out how to schedule out the day with together learning times and seperate learning times - they are all really at their own level...

Finished WK 3 of ECC / WK 1 of K / Day 2 of 1st

That's right! My 5th grader just finished the 3rd week in ECC. My Kindergartener finished the first 5 days of the Intro. My 1st grader just finished his first 2 days of 1st. We have had the best time. I was SOOOOO nervous about this year. And, while we're not into all three curriculums full-fledged,...

Re: Earthworms?

Well, we've transferred the worms to the jar with the soil and sand and oats as described in the book. But now what? Can I leave them out on top of our fridge? Our a/c works but we keep it only in the upper 70's, close to 80 in the house. It's not hot, but it's not cool. I noticed that the box they ...

Re: Earthworms?

Why not just start the earthworm stuff today so it is not a problem? It's ok to do that. Then you can read stuff as you come to it. ;) Well, I could have thought of that, but I'm a little obsessive compulsive and pretty particular about following a schedule as it is written. It'll take all my will ...

Earthworms?

We're starting ECC tomorrow! SO EXCITED. This past Saturday I went to the local sports store and bought 12 nightcrawlers/earthworms (big juicy ones! :-) ) and stuck them in the fridge. They come in a styrofome box with dirt. My big question, how long are they good for? We'll do the experiment on Thu...
