Re: Literary Analysis question - high school guides

That helps very much. Thank you, Julie. My son did the Guides a bit out of order...he did US1 in 9th grade b/c his sister was using it and I wanted them to study it together. I did tweak it a bit for him, but he completed the Scarlet Letter PP Guide and we discussed it quite a bit. This child is not...

Re: Literary Analysis question - high school guides

He has completed 3 PP Guides (1 last year and 2 this year). I was looking for something a bit more formal for Lit. Analysis than what the PP Guides provide. KWIM?

Re: Bible for US History to 1877?

Julie ...thanks for your suggestions. Well, today I just happened upon the PERFECT Bible plan for my dd. :-) Just wanted to share in case it appealed to anyone else. http://www.2to1conference.com/180-days-in-the-word/ And it's only $5! I really like it and am going to do it with my dd. I love how Go...

Re: Reverse order for high school? (US1/2 THEN AHL, WHL)

Crystal, that is an idea. It wouldn't take much time for him to sit in on the weekly AAH reading and I could assign other American History type books for his "free reading" in addition to the AHL books and some key Ancient books I'd like him to read. That would give him a "basic" overview of America...

Re: Reverse order for high school? (US1/2 THEN AHL, WHL)

And that would be my preferred order as well. However, ds14 hasn't had any American History except bits and pieces up until now and the rest of his 6 siblings are studying that time period next year. My options were: put him in AHL anyway even though he would be "left out", include him in with my yo...

Re: Reverse order for high school? (US1/2 THEN AHL, WHL)

Glad to give you a chuckle, Crystal. :-) My plan is to use the US1 Literature pretty much as-is for him and see how he does. I will obviously expect less of him for the writing assignments and perhaps omit some of them since he will be using R&S English for writing as well. There is a lot of reading...

Re: Pride & Prejudice Essay in WHL...??

Thanks all. That is helpful. Perhaps I'll give her a day to "sit on it" and see what she comes up with. She hated the book. We are watching the BBC movie version now and she hates that too. I thought it would be a treat. I love P&P...love Austen. Sigh. Any other ideas or ways to "change up" the essa...

Pride & Prejudice Essay in WHL...??

A question for those of you who have done WHL. We are a bit "behind" this year and dd15 has just finished P&P and is writing her essay about her views on dating and marriage. I have asked her to refer back to P&P in her essay to compare or contrast her personal views of marriage/courting/dating to c...

Re: Reverse order for high school? (US1/2 THEN AHL, WHL)

I'm so glad you have peace about your decision, Sandra. It sounds like, for your children, this is the best choice. Academically, my ds14 and dd15 are miles apart. Dd15 has always been very motivated and independent with her studies. My ds12 is much the same way. Ds14...not so much. I think he is *c...

Re: Reverse order for high school? (US1/2 THEN AHL, WHL)

Thanks ladies. Sandra I did see your post in my earlier searches and it is very helpful. I think your discussion group will be very helpful for my dd. Sign us up! Julie and Crystal you both give me some good food for thought. I looked through my US1 pack last night. On the surface it looks doable fo...

Re: AHL: Done by 1pm?

Crystal, your ideas are always helpful. Thanks to both of you. I checked over her work last night and asked her this morning to put a bit more thought into her BIble journal questions and answers. Seemed she was rushing through. Typical. ;) I'll speak to her about labs b/c I agree she should be able...

Re: 1st day with AHL...not so good.

Thanks everyone. I'm sure there are some summer "cobwebs" to shake off. Dd and I did talk about her first day a bit ago and she couldn't pinpoint exactly what her issue was. :~ Seems she was a bit overwhelmed with the transition from middle school work to high school work AND that ps was very easy o...

Thank you all so much for taking the time to share. I am simply not prepared for high school as I thought dd would just continue in ps. That was the plan anyway until she asked to come back home, much to my surprise and joy! I will check out the other sections, too. Thank you!

Re: MFW K for a 6yo who is "behind"...

Thanks for all the encouragement and advice. I really do appreciate it. I want so much for this child to feel successful, b/c so often he is frustrated and feels like he can't do anything right. We are always encouraging him and praising his efforts and successes, but he is one of those more negativ...
