Out in the afternoons?

This year we will be doing CTG and MFWK. I am so excited but a little nervous I will have two programs to do and three children to school. Our YMCA offers homeschool PE two days a week. My children really want to do this. I think that it will be good also. Is it possible to do two programs and be o...

Re: Lapbooking - Ideas to use with Apologia Elementary sci

Posted: Fri Sep 14, 2007 2:32 pm Thanks - very interesting! We use Apologia and I think these sound like a great way to reinforce what the students learn. When I heard about lapbooking last year I was thinking it would be too...juvenile (silly word since my kids are juveniles, but you get my drift)...

Posted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 9:18 am When we did ECC last year, my younger son was in 6th grade and he loathes drawing and coloring. He would use tracing paper sometimes, but it just wasn't something that interested him. So we would print pictures from our encyclopedia software or I'd color copy photos...

ECC - Experience with 7th & 8th graders?

For the 2006-07 school year I'll have a student in each of the following grades: 2nd,6th,7th and 8th. I noticed that ECC has a supplement for grades 7-8. Are those supplement readings "scheduled" into the TM for me? Also, is the Apologia Science schedule already in the TM? How much extra planning d...

I am one of those who went to convention just knowing what I was going to buy but on the last morning, after a night of praying "God, please show me what You wa...

How does MFW use this?

I have heard that MFW does this differently than the instructions say. Can someone please elaborate on HOW they do it? I am getting ready for the year and trying to get everything all laid out. We haven't yet started our school year, but I've been going over the TM for CtG so we'll be ready...just ...

I had a set of laminated maps from Geography Matters. I hung the map we were currently working with on the wall using binder clips and push pins. Whenever we learned the location of a country, my kids took turns outlining the countries with Vis-a-Vis markers and added the flag to their passports. We...

PP - How much time to set aside?

How long do you take to get through a Progeny Press guide. This will be for a 6th and 7th grader. Can you give me a typical week? Thanks, jen My son was in 6th grade last year and he went through two of the guides. We went through them slowly. I just took each division in the guide (typically it wa...

Re: What are younger & older age guidelines?

You could probably just have younger students look up some of the info with you to show how to go about finding the info, rather than having them actually fill it in.

David Hazell pointed out to me that with Singapore it's critical to do the placement tests if you haven't used it from the beginning, and then don't panic if you feel like your child will be behind because of the book number they are in! I hope you find the math program that is the best fit for your...

Academics - Is it enough? Do you supplement?

Well I finally bit the bullet and ordered the ECC basic package. Last year was just torture. The kids weren't happy and either was I, we need more fun in our school! So here we are trying something new. My biggest concern was that it would not be enough academically for us, like they might miss som...

Jennifer - thanks for the list of Christian heroes and their weaknesses. That does put things in perspective, doesn't it? I am always encouraged when I realize every one of us is just a real mom, struggling with the same feelings of inadequacy at the start of every year...and in the middle...and aga...

Regarding the Geography Bee, I heard Maggie Hogan from Bright Ideas Press say that you can go to the National Geographic web site to find out how to register and prepare for it. She mentioned that there was a study guide on that site. She recommended studying for it even if you never intend to parti...
