Re: CTG for 7th grade boy
Thank you. I forgot about the Progeny Press guides! Thanks Crystal for telling me what your daughter will be doing. That helps me a lot. My son is just very picky about what he reads. He really isn't interested in fiction...preferring non-fiction, biographies, etc. I read a description of each of th...

Thank you ladies for all your awesome advice. It means a lot to me to get your input. Everyone is so helpful and freely giving of their time to answer questions here. That's one big reason I love MFW! Blessings to you all, Tracy

Re: Need Apologia help!!
Hi, I emailed Apologia due to this post as my 14yo dd is progressing very slowly through General Science. Dr. Jay said he would send one test at a time, as they are supposed to be used as re-tests and not for initial testing. My dd did poorly on the module 2 test and today she did great on the modul...

You can also order testing from Hewitt Resources and administer them yourself. They are not timed.

Re: dyslexia
Jenn, I totally can empathize with you. My 14yo has dyslexia and language-based LD, my 12 yo son has Aspergers and Tourette Syndromes, and language-based LD, and my youngest, 10, definitely has issues with reading and writing, probably dyslexia and/or language-based LD. It is so totally overwhelming...

Re: High School, I don't know what to do....
Glenna, I have heard about Reading for Blind and Dyslexic for years and never looked into it, but maybe now is the time. It might be worth it for her to have access to it. I don't know why I never seriously looked into it, I guess it looked like more work and I already felt overloaded! Thanks for re...

Re: High School, I don't know what to do....
Julie, Thanks for clearing that up. You are a great help. I don't think you are confusing, I think I am just generally confused at the moment! You have given me some things to think about and I know I will work through it eventually, it may take a lot of emails, calls, reading of materials, etc. but...

Re: High School, I don't know what to do....
Juile and Crystal, Thank you for your encouragement, I cried. I have been feeling down lately, and more than a little stressed due to end of year pressure. I have three LD kids and it takes so long to get anything done because they all need my help with practically everything, so one or more of them...

is MFW a good choice for kids with Asperger's?
Do any of you have children on the autism spectrum who are successfully using MFW? A heavy emphasis on readers and read-alouds doesn't fit well with my 6yo son's lack of attention (possibly ADD) and need for visual learning. He seems very stereotypically "Aspie" in his love for machines (computers)...

December blues...
I always seem to struggle in December, and this year is no exception. It is just so hectic with all the things the season brings, ie. getting together with family and friends we won't see Christmas eve or day, special youth group events, plus regular Bible studies and related events, plus therapies...

What timing!
We are in week 10--Brazil--in ECC. Just before we started Brazil, a man from our church, who went on a Brazil mission trip last year, addressed the church. He said one of the obstacles they faced was not having enough Bibles to pass out to the people there, so he started collecting for Bibles for Br...

I can't imagine that sending your daughter to school will help make her MORE obedient. I agree with Dawn. This sounds like a matter of the heart--your dd's heart. Around here we deal with heart issues using scripture. I look up scripture that addresses whatever the heart issue is, then read the scri...

Great idea, Jami. I'm going to go back and make a list of things we've missed right now. BTW, is it okay to do crafts/projects from a previous country if we are no longer studying that country? I sort of feel like, well...we missed it, I guess I'll just forget about it, but it's so hard to let it go...

Re: Happy Hubby!
My husband frequently listens in when I am reading to or teaching the children from this most excellent curriculum. He always comments positively or smiles or nods his head in approval. We also have lively discussions at the dinner table which my husband loves to lead. It is his time to teach and we...

Fiesta
Our Fiesta went well today. The pinata looked great, but when filled with candy was quite heavy and the string would cut through the papier mache, so my husband had to reinforce with duct tape. We invited a homeschool friend over to enjoy the event. When pinata time came, we drove our friend home ju...

I just found a possible resource. It is called Artistic Pursuits--The Elements of Art and Compostiion, Jr. High, Bk. 1. Its emphasis is on art around the world. It is written to the student and requires no teacher prep. time. It comes with fine art prints by the masters and teaches not only art form...

Thank you ladies, all very good ideas and points. I guess I was thinking, also, that she should be doing art and music that will prepare her for high school level. I looked at the Global Art at the convention and thought it looked more like simple crafts, than an art curriculum. I know ECC is design...

You guys are awesome. Not only did I get advice on what to use to correct the problem, but I also got a first hand account of what my dd is probably going through and how she is feeling. I did not expect that. I have been getting impatient with her and somewhat accusing her of just not trying very h...
