3.5 yr old and 18 month old curriculum - New to MFW
I am new to MFW and also new to homeschooling and am trying to choose curricula. My children will be 3.5 yrs. and 18 months in January. We hope to start in January and I am unsure as to whether I should get both the All Aboard (2yr) material for the younger one and the pre-K for the older one. If I...

Re: Enrichment Item: Keva Planks
We got them for my sons birthday a few years ago. He was a bit older, he is turning 12 on Monday and I think we got them for his 9th or 10th birthday. We got 200, and he always feels like her needs more and he is just 1 kid. i would suggest getting them each their own set, or at least 400 for all to...

I'm Cheryl and we have 5 amazing children, 3 girls - ages 14, 8, and 11months, and 2 boys -ages 11 and 2 1/2. We began our home school journey 7 years ago when our oldest was entering 2nd grade and we are now beginning her high school career! I'm excited that we have completed the cycle and are star...

Must I have the wall map for ECC?
I already ordered placed an order with MFW and realized afterward that I forgot to order the wall map. Does the curriculum actually use that particular map in specific ways? Would the place mat type mat from Adventures work? Staples and office max sell world wall maps. I like their maps because the...

KEVA Structures
I was wondering if anyone has this building set that MFW has for an enrichment item? It looks fantastic and I think my kids would all enjoy it. I'm thinking about purchasing the set as a gift for my 5yo (just 5 in August), but I'm wondering if he'd be ready for it? Do the pieces build easily or do ...

Re: Do you break for a baby?
I had my littlest 1 week before Christmas. He was 5 wks. early and had a NICU stay of 12 days. We took off 3 weeks. We probably would have only taken 2, but with Christmas, New Years and the NICU it wound up being 3. I did find it helpful to get everyone back to a routine fairly quickly. I am actual...

Kindergarten Handwriting
I'm a first time homeschool mom. I was looking over the samples of the K curriculum. I am wondering how handwriting is taught. Do they actually teach the correct way to write each letter and number? I'm wondering if I want to add a supplement. I really want to make sure he learns to write correctly...

Re: Art Confession
I confess, this year i have not done art with any of my kiddos! I find teaching 3 kids, 1 in first and 2 in Exploration - 1850, one being a 7th grade struggling learner, and having a 11 month old in the mix who is into EVERYTHING, I just don't seem to have the time or energy. I pray I am not going t...

Re: Rosetta Stone ?
Interesting you posted this question. Over the summer our computer crashed. We had to get a new one. I'll confess and tell you my daughter had started RS last year in 6th grade. We lost all her progress when the computer crashed and I have been reluctant to install and start over. We also lost my ki...

As we are approaching the unit for Dd Dinosaur, I am conflicted about whether or not to read the book, What Really Happened to the Dinosaurs, which came in my deluxe package or not. I am a new Christian. I went to public school, all the way up through public university at the graduate school level....

Re: MFW with infant
I have a 7 month old. He was born in December and I was in the middle of a school year with a Ker, 3rd grader and 6th grader. I used the baby k'tan carrier and it was very helpful. Also remember that sometimes, "the baby is the lesson." If you google that you will find a blog entry someone did about...

Re: Vision Therapy?
My 8 year old nephew is in vision therapy right now. He is homeschooled by my sister- in law who is also a special education teacher in the public school system. What do you do with all the crafts?
I think I'm late asking this question because we are on the last week of ECC. (I should have asked at the beginning...) What do you do with all the creations that are made? My kids groan when I play the composer cds! I don't think I am going to fight the battle either. It has never hurt me that I don't know most of that stuff. Am I the only one? Re: Do you use World Geography?
When we did ECC I had a 4th grader and a 1st tag a long. I tried using it the first time it was in TM and it seemed too difficult for them. After that I shelved it. We still had a great year without it. I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Geography game prep?
I covered out boards with clear sticky laminate. It protects them, and instead of using marker pieces that can slide around the board we mark ours with a dry erase marker - it wipes right off the laminate each time you play the game.

word spacing and lefties? OK - so today we are doing day 14 in MFW1 - the first day to write down the memory verse and the introduction to using one's finger to put enough space between words. One kid is a righty and no issues with this - the other is a lefty and had a hard time because his right h...

I definitely think it depends on each child and their ability. My son is in 3rd and he has been doing most of his reading in his head since 2nd grade. He was reading chapter books fluently in 1st grade. I check his comprehension and remind him if he is unsure of a word that he comes to ask me. I als...

a K moment
My k'er brought tears to my eyes when she was saying the blessing before lunch yesterday. We are on day 5 of the creation intro. In her prayer she said "Thank you, thank you, thank you for the 7 days you made." Well I almost fell to pieces. Just thought I would share my proud mommy moment.
