review of My Father's World Kindergarten

I wrote a review on my blog about using My Father's World K. This is our 2nd time using it, so I wanted a place to share all my tips, pros and cons, and printables in using the program. If you're interested, here's the link: http://alittleinspiration.wordpress.com/2012/07/29/my-fathers-world-kinderg...

Workboxes

I would like to hear from anyone who has used workboxes this past year. How did they work for you and do you plan to continue using them next year? Did you make any changes, if so what? What ages do they work best for? Would your recommend them to others or do you have another system? I am consider...

My daughter has had meltdowns as well with SP. With the new year, I had her decide on a spelling goal. Her goal is to learn 2 new words a day. (This may seem small but I'm hoping we'll progress better this way.) So because it is her idea, and she realizes we're not trying to get all the words right ...

Posted: Tue Apr 01, 2008 9:42 pm We love the hands on activities, notebooking, book basket, and Charlotte Mason ideas of MFW. But love the great books of other programs that we can add in. We also love adding SL's science DVDs to use with the science experiments that are in MFW lst grade and Advent...

We have just loved Adventures!

I'm so grateful for all we have learned about America in Adventures. We've only finished half the year, but on the 4th of July, we put on the Celebrate America CD and my kids were singing with all their little hearts to the patriotic songs we've learned so far. Then we pulled out the red, white and ...

The books my kids choose from the library are always out and available for them to read. The book basket ones are kept in bins in our school room and used only during book basket time. It makes it more special to save them for book basket time. The books seem "new" to my kids and they are more eager...

You have given me more confidence in what I thought would be a good plan, just needed some encouragement and tips. Thank you all so much! I feel at peace that we should just take a step back instead of going with a whole new math program.
Thanks!

our fabulous first week using MFW first grade

Posted: Sat Nov 11, 2006 12:44 am I just have to say this has been a fabulous first week using MFW 1st grade. Our previous program wasn't working for us in some areas, so I switched and it has been such a fun week. It combines so much of what I wanted to teach my children, but all in ONE--hands on ...

Posted: Mon Sep 10, 2007 9:16 pm The words have come easy so far for my dd as well in SSS. We will keep doing it but each week we also add a few words from her writing (she writes in her journal once or twice a week) that she misspells and add them to the spelling list. It seems to help make it a l...

Yes, you can do it this way-

We have been doing Adventures this year with the plan to do it in 2 years. It is working great for us. We take each week and try to finish it in 2 weeks. I decided to do it this way because I thought it would be easier to go at a slower pace with us using MFW k next year. My kids are the same ages 7...

To go along with Felicity books

After reading some of the Felicity series books this week, we found a DVD at our library called Felicity: An American Girl Adventure . It was so well done! I highly recommend it! Also, you can even take a tour of Felicity's colonial life on the computer--fun games and activites for the kids. http://...

Great ideas above. Just to add: I have a two year old and we're doing Adventures with my 7 year old and 4 year old in the mix too. Another idea, which we did last year-- my daughter was feeling the same way, so we stopped. Came back to it and did 10 numbers on one day for the 100 chart. I've found a good balance between the two

I love purchasing big reader packages so I buy those for my dd to read to me and ask her questions to help see her comprehension. Then I keep the read alouds to use when we need another chapter book to read together.

But I love the hands on of MFW!

It is a great mix for us.

Reading - Can you stall phonics but continue science & histo

I thought I'd ask... what happens if your child is on lesson 23 or 48 or whatever and just cannot make it click? Can you reasonably hold off on the phonics while continuing with the science and history? Or is it so integrated that you are stuck until they are ready to continue? DS will be 6.5 when ...

I switched to MFW a few months ago. However, I didn't want to miss out on all those great books. Now we use art/music/history/bible/LA/science from MFW and then add in another set of readers and read-alouds geared toward my child's age. It's a great fit for us! One other thing--I think having a good...

Oh, you give me such hope that I can teach my child to read/write in a clear, enjoyable, and easy way. You've convinced me! :) Thank you so much! One question, do you think it would be too much to add more readers in with the MFW 1 program? Thanks.
