Re: Continue Singapore 6A?

I'll start the conversation. I hope others chime in as well. Singapore level 6 is a challenge! There were times in Singapore when my son needed a break and we used something else for a bit, or we focused on math facts for a while. It was like his brain just needed to calm down :~ After a bit it woul...

Re: Jacob's Geometry

I am probably the person in the older thread who contacted Mr. Jacobs. I am that kind of mom :) But I am not sure he is still available in the same way, so I went and edited my post, taking out the now-defunct link to his website. MFW does provide consultation when using any materials purchased from...

Re: How can I do a Synergy Group with 5 yr old and 2nd grader (Adventures in US History)?

Hello! I have not heard about a family trying Synergy in your situation and so your post has prompted some discussion :) Synergy is designed for families doing the same curriculum at home, but with a bit of creativity it seems possible to create your own unique blend. If you do, I'd love to hear how...

Re: Five Flavors of Homeschooling

Hi Joyce,

I'm glad you enjoyed a call from MFW today! I don't do calls, but I can let the other Julie know :)

My youngest is in college now, but your link sounds interesting. I think I'll go listen to it :)

Re: Planning for 9th grade

Parent meetings probably look differently in each home. I thought I'd start the conversation by linking you to a thread with some different examples of parent meetings: https://board.mfwbooks.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=8899 . Hopefully others will share how it looks in their homes! In general, no prep...

Re: AHL: Where are the map activities? Thx!

Are the maps found in the appendix of the "teacher guide"/weekly grid or the AHL Supplement? I've looked in both and still can't find them. My version is Feb. 2013, with the supplement being Dec. 2012. That makes me think I need to look elsewhere. Currently, the maps are in the Appendix of the Dail...

Re: AHL: Where are the map activities? Thx!

Hi Rhonda, The answer depends on when your Lesson Plans were printed! When my youngest used AHL, it came with the mapping book and atlas that are now included in WHL. Moving those to WHL was phased in around 2014 and 2015. World History has a LOT of mapping (earning an extra 0.25 credit, if it is al...

Re: Writing for 10th grade?

Carla, I don't think that link really addresses your question about coming into 10th grade without the whole long progression of writing products used beforehand. I have read Susan Wise Bauer's Q&A conversations elsewhere, and I never saw a suggestion that a student jump into WWS-2 or 3 without havi...

Re: Writing for 10th grade?

Hi again Carla :) I have a few different scenarios for you... 1. If your daughter hasn’t had Ancient History, but instead earned a different social studies credit in 9th grade. a. We recommend using AHL in 10th grade, WHL in 11th grade, and a combo of US1 and US2 in the 12th grade (selecting social ...

Re: Changes in Exp-1850?

Hi Carla! Writing Strands is still recommended for grades 4-6, and WWS is recommended for grades 7-8 (the one book is used over the two years). I agree, it's a great addition as kids get closer to high school. For other changes, it is a little-known fact that I've collected an archive of those chang...

Re: Economics in High School guide

Julie, Do you know if you can use Economics in a Box with the current guide, or Oikonomia with a previous guide? I haven't seen the 12th grade guide first hand, so I'm not sure how Economics is scheduled. Thanks! Yes, Economics is scheduled within the Economics guide and does not rely on scheduling...

Re: Economics in High School guide

Lourdes is correct :) The publisher made a few minor changes, and those are now on our website. The changes involve... 1. Title change (Oikonomia means something like Economics for Life) 2. They took out Whatever Happened to Penny Candy from their Lesson Plans, so that will no longer be in the packa...

Yes, MFW has created our own timeline figures for AHL.

Any phone consultant can help with an upgrade and/or another order. They are all great to talk to and experienced homeschoolers :)

There is a suggested schedule on how to do WWS 1 in one year for an 8th grader needing that option. I think it's listed on the main site under the curriculum tab, click language arts. Not sure if anyone has caught this yet, but there is a mistake in the Children's Atlas of God's World on page 51 on the map of Africa. They show Mount Kilimanjaro being in Kenya and it is NOT.
