Re: need high school parenting curriculum ideas

This requirement is new to me. I hope someone comes up with some great suggestions! A few random thoughts I had this morning: (1) Be sure that requirement applies to homeschoolers. Since you are the one awarding the diploma in your school, you often have to meet only general legal requirements and n...

Re: Fast Facts

I am a big fan of math facts drill. Even my public schooled kids were assigned math facts practice at home, and we would post a fact-of-the-day all over the house. Then when I tutored (at Kumon centers), drill was the foundational skill before anything else in math began. Even for kids using calcula...

Re: Student Sheets

We stored ours in a magazine file. There are tons of ways to do it. This thread in the Archives has 3 pages! https://board.mfwbooks.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=8101 One thing I think is helpful to keep in mind: The SS arrive in the order they are used. It saves a lot of effort finding a certain page if...

Re: Choosing Math

Not much has been said about Singapore, so I thought I'd mention a couple of things I like about using Singapore Math. First, when you mentioned teacher guidance, I picture the 500-page teacher's manual that came with the first math program I got for my youngest, yikes! Too much teacher help can be ...

Re: Where to find a good globe?

This is the perfect time of year to find a globe. Even stores like Target and Walmart often carry globes during the back-to-school season. If you're heading to a larger town, then you might do a search for Teacher Supply Stores, as well.

Re: MFW w/Mystery of History?

Anything is possible, especially for a homeschool parent! My Father's World leaves room for Book Basket, independent reading, and extra read-alouds, so adding more reading (like Dawn did) is do-able :) I just thought I'd mention a couple things from my very limited experience: (1) I think you'd need...

Hi and welcome! Generally, we recommend doing all subjects together as a family (up through 8th grade) except language arts and math. Family subjects are based on the oldest child's program, just as you have been doing. So, a family with children aged 5 and 6 at the start of the year would use 1st g...

I'll just reinforce that with a few ideas below. But first there are a few things I'd like to confirm: 1. It sounds like he did well with K. I...

I will say that while the abbreviations can make for some shorter posts it can be a bit confusing needing to go back and forth between posts and the list.
That is a good point. I will try to keep that in mind as I Archive older conversations. Thanks, and welcome!
