Re: Curriculum choices--CTG--needing some encouragement

I'm using CTG this year with a 4th, 3rd and 1st grader. My first grader was using the 1st grade curriculum but she began doing so much with the olders that I just con't with her own phonics and math, but used CTG with her as well. As for what to expect from each child in terms of notebooking, scienc...

Re: For those who have used CTG with youngers

I too have a tag-along 7 y.o., but with olders, that's where they are and I think it is the perfect fit. OK, not perfect because there's nothing perfect this side of heaven- -it's why we long for perfection, looking forward for what's to come for those in Christ!! ANYWAY...here's my 2 cents. My poor...

Re: Flash card help . . . Trish? . . . anyone? please?

I had the lauri number's from the preschool MFW set. I'd have a kid run and pick up the numbers for the answers or just pull the numbers out of the pile...it was fun for a while.

Re: Scheduling Quiet Times-What do you think?

We have a quiet time in our house (on good days when we're not running all over the world) and I have the kids spend maybe a 1/2 hour to an hour in their rooms. Our kids get a devotional from our children's ministry called God Time . It's short and sweet and reinforces the Bible taught Sunday and Tu...

Re: The one extra resource you'd buy for CtoG??

Agreeing with Crystal...we made ours and the kids had fun. It gave us time to talk about the many parts and they also worked on it while I did some Bible reading. Maybe next time around though we might splurge and buy a set to build, just for something different. I have to admit...it didn't last lon...

Re: I'm shopping--Need ideas for extras for CtG and 1st grade!

I'd recommend a good children's Bible...the one I love is the Jesus Storybook Bible, where every story whispers His Name. Sometimes I'd have it in book basket, other times I'd read the Bible story from that bible as well...the stories are well written and the pictures are beautiful. We're doing exac...

Re: ECC -- How much time/day?

Jamie wrote:I just finished looking in the past ECC posts, and it looks like ECC takes around 3-4 hours/day to complete everything that is recommended by MFW. Is this still the case?
We did ECC last year and yes, it took about 3-4 hours for my kids schooling, grades K,2, and 3 last year. It was a super year.

Honestly I wouldn't be able to do it alongside any MFW curriculum. That's just me and my kids. Maybe an extra here or there, but we're BUSY and learning A LOT!! :)

SOTW?

Is there a way that anyone has incorporated SOTW vol 1 into MFW? STOW 1 was given to me years ago...hung onto it for some reason. Although I don't try to fit it in, my kids love to color while I'm reading so I've copied some of the pages that fit with our study...today they colored some Greek paper...

Re: Is there anything that would help to get done before CtG

Well I've decided to go ahead and start CtG. I'm trying to get everything prepped and ready so that I don't have to do so much later on. My question is whether or not there are any projects to do like for example in ECC there were the games to put together. Would there be anything like that that wo...

I started this year with my 3rd and 4th graders to have them read some of the history on their own. Usually it's the Usborne books. Once they read they do a notebook page or narrate to me what they read. It seems to be working nicely, and like you said, it gives me extra time with my 1st grader who ...

We've used MFW for the last 4 years. I must say I love the Biblical world view, I loved praying for the countries as we studied geography, I loved studying the names of Jesus and how science was related to that in Adv. I loved the character training in K as they rememberd little sayings as we moved ...

I also use a mixture for readers...but I love, love the pathway readers. My kids really enjoy them too. So I have them read those for reading 3 times a week and then the other days they read a book of their choice with mom's approval...sometimes related to our study, sometimes not.

My oldest ds does not like to draw or write. He does love the bible and never wants me to stop when we're reading, and loves that he can read the bible himself too! We always read the bible story in the bible after we read it in the TM--this is how he wants to do it! Anyway, on to my question! Does...

We, like Toni, do Bible reading during breakfast a lot. Today I read/summarized Streams during lunch and we had a lovely discussion.
