Re: Vocab Cards & Advanced Work?

I would definitely cut down on the work load for a 7yo. You can always do parts of ECC later when she is older. I think 8 is too young for the advanced work also but it is your call. For the vocab. cards you could just read the meaning and have then label the card and draw the picture. I think this ...

In the Choosing Curriculum Archive, Marie explains how to teach K and 1 at the same time. Basically, you teach all the K program the first year adding the language and math from the 1 for your 7yo and then the next year you teach all the 1 adding 2nd grade math and language for your then 8yo. So you...

Re: More than one?

My two youngest dc are learning Latin. Next quarter I will be adding in Greek. My older dd is learning Latin and Greek at the same time while in her third year with Spanish. You learn Science and History at the same time. It isn't that hard to do two languages at the same time either. If you want to...

7-plus yrs old - Using MFW1 for grade 2+ language arts

Hello! My 7 year old daughter is going to begin MFW1 in the fall...even though she would be (should be???) starting "2nd grade". I am new to homeschooling and I am fearful I am going to mess her up. OR should I start supplementing and start 3rd grade next year?? Is anyone else in this boat? Please ...

Classical Education and MFW (Author response)

I just read The Well-Trained Mind and have become very interested in classical education. Would some of you veteran MFW users tell me your opinion of how MFW compares/contrasts with classical education thinking. Thanks for your input. Author: Sue in MN Date: 5/11/2004 MFW is classical. My dc really enjoyed the book Ali and the Golden Eagle which I read aloud. Our library didn't have it so I bought it from Sonlight. They also drew a golden eagle and a camel for their notebooks by following Book 8 Animals of the World. Part Two - Dry Land Animals of the Draw Write Now series. Draw W...

We played a geography game called Go Travel: Africa. I picked it up at our state's homeschool conference. There are 52 beautiful cards with a country on each. They are grouped with nearby countries into groups of four. You can play Go Fish or Concentration with them. The cards themselves are beautif...

Schedule - How to fill state requirements

State History Usually 4th graders study their state's history. How do you do this while using MFW? Kelley In my state it is not required in 4th grade. Are you sure it is required in 4th grade or is that just when the public school studies it? I plan to study state history the last year of the 5 yea...

Even though the orange was messy we did this. I was flabbergasted when my 14yo said she finally now understood about the lines and why the continents change shape on a flat map. This wasn't the only time I did one of ECC's activities against my "better" judgement and realized how much this helped my...
