Re: ECC 3rd grade spelling power ?'s

My daughter wanted a "Spelling Workbook" so having the special Spelling Power notebooks helped her have a better attitude about Spelling. Otherwise, a spiral notebook is just fine.

More {Hugs}. You are not a bad mom. Your child has free will, too. I saw a great post a while back. Maybe it will encourage you.

Re: Has anyone had to send their dc to public school for a season?

Cindy, I have not put my kids into PS for a season. However, if I were to do this, and then the child asked to come home, I would talk with husband about what our educational goals and expectations are for the child. Then, I would talk to child about their personal goals and also their expectations ...

Re: Why Does MFW have an International Focus?

The international focus has given my kids an interest in what's going on around the world.

This Christmas break, my husband and daughter will be taking a missions trip to Honduras.

Re: Has anyone had to send their dc to public school for a season?

Lord, I just lift up Cindy and her husband, and ask you to give them wisdom on the best way to handle this situation. You know them, you know their daughter, and all the little details of the situation. Give them your courage and grace. Amen

Re: MFW K Break

I find my kids needed lots and lots of modelling on the blend ladder. You point to the letters as you say the sounds, and then have her do it. Say it slow and stretch the sounds out (like nnnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaa), and then say it fast (na). Then have her do it. Just keep modelling. Eventually it clicks.

Re: Teaching from Rest

For me, it means adjusting to fit my kids' needs and our family's needs as a whole. For example, 2 of my 3 kids are dyslexic. So, it means we often do things orally, rather than written. I still scribe for my 7th grade dyslexic boy (or writing would *never* happen for him). For my 11th grader (who i...

Re: Check-In Time

I have an 11th grader doing U.S. History to 1877 and twin 7th graders doing EXP1850. The year started off rough. My boys weren't quite ready for the adjustment to 7th grade level work. It is getting better. We are usually finished with most of the work by noon, with just Reading (Progeny Press), Boo...

Re: Struggling with Applications of Grammar and praise for Mfw

I've had to do the lessons *with* my twin boys. We tried a couple with me having them read the lessons and do the exercises themselves, and that just didn't work.

Apologia Physical Science Video Instruction DVDs?

Curious if anyone has "sprung" for these letcures on DVD for Apologia Physical Science? My son is a good reader, but with so much reading this year, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be nice (read: motivating ;) for him to be able to listen to some of his science. But I need to hear some testimonials be...

Re: Physcial Science count as a lab science?

I would think if you did almost all the labs, it could count. I know I did physical science in 9th (back in the day at public school), and we probably had 1 lab a week or every other week, at the most. Same with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. If you're going to do Biology, Chemistry and either Adv...

9th grade math - Alg2 or Geometry?

Hi All! I haven't been around here in awhile, but in getting ready for high school, I'll take all the help I can get. :-) I've read through the archives and looked at the website, but I still can't find a compelling reason to do Jacob's Geometry before taking Saxon Algebra 2. My daughter started Al...

feeling a bit overwhelmed and discouraged...advice??

This fall I will be homeschooling 10th, 9th, 7th, 6th, 3rd and I have an almost 2 yr old. My older 2 will still require a good bit of my time, especially with math and science (will be finishing up biology with my oldest-she is VERY behind in it, and will start Physical with my 9th grader-we tried ...

Re: Timeline Book for 1850-Modern?

You could keep doing the one you're doing, probably. But like Christy said, everything from CTG to EXP1850 is already printed in it, so you wouldn't lose previous years.

There are lots and lots of timeline figures for 1850MOD.

I wonder if this book http://www.apologia.com/who-is-god/216-who-is-god.html would help with his questions about God? And it's okay to tell him you don't know. I have no other advice on dealing with your issues, though. {Hugs} and prayers for you!

One thing I do is start my 7th graders (or junior high and high school kids) two weeks before I start the year with the younger ones. Overwhelmed

My curriculum got delivered today... I have a 4th and 7th grader that will be doing ECC and all I can think is what have I gotten myself into. This is our 1st year homeschooling. 4 day schedule for ECC

I am thinking about doing ECC with my kiddos for the next school year. We do a co-op one day a week so am looking for ideas on how to schedule ECC into 4 days per week. Re: teaching reading

I think many children can do just K and 1st, and then use the recommended spelling for 2nd to reinforce those phonics. Since you are using All About Reading, you know about all the vowel teams and "rules." My oldest is dyslexic. I didn't figure it out until about 3rd grade. We added All About Spelli...

Can someone tell me if the "world history map activities" is used in AHL. I see that it is used in WHL. I have used Singapore and never used the Home Instructors Guide. One thing I have heard about it is that it is too much if you do *everything* in the guide. I was wondering how Logic is scheduled for 9th grade.
