Re: How do you use All in One English?

Skipped the pretest. My boys write in the book. We do a lesson a day, two days a week (my boys are also doing Intermediate Language Lesson 3 days a week - but I need fuller days 5 days a week because of state requirements, so that helps). I go over it with my boys, and do at least the first question...

You know what I might do? I might take a week off the three R's and do a week of Bible, History, and Science.

MLA or APA?

For those of you who have have done WHL, does it make more sense for my 10th grade son to do APA style (he's getting ready to write his rough draft), which is what I learned in graduate school... and what I hear colleges require? Is there a reason why MFW chooses MLA when the kids are going to even...

Re: General Science

My oldest is dyslexic. I bought the audio mp3 for her to listen to as she followed along. I also go the Student Notebook. That was very helpful for learning to take notes. And, by the time she got to Biology, she didn't need the Student Notebook any longer, or the mp3. I also bought pre-made flash c...

Advice for 8th Grade

If you had one year (8th) left before tackling MFW AHL, would you do ECC? Or something else? For an independently working 8th grader. We are currently using Notgrass' Adam to Us for 7th. Also, for those who have used AHL - what sort of skills are prerequisite to completing the high school level wor...

Re: Anyone memorize the entire book of James?

I think we managed about half-way through James 4. We ended up getting our required days in for our school year by then, so we stopped and I just finished reading the Bible and History and Science for the rest of the year. But, it is doable. Even my boys (they were 2nd graders) did great with Plan A.

Re: School supplies for AHL

For math and science, my dd is using quad-rule composition notebooks (she got hooked on these from a math class she took at co-op).

Otherwise, she used spiral notebooks for taking notes in and writing answers to the questions for History.

Cycling back to ECC - bought in 2010 - update??

I purchased ECC in 2010 (manual is copyright 2002, 2009), and I purchased the student sheets then, for my daughter to do now, she was in K then, and entering 5th now. I didn't want my manual to be outdated an unable to use it again. I'm so glad I did, because money is tighter than ever this summer!...

Can someone tell me a bit more about the reading/literature portion of MFW, specifically the time between kids becoming independent readers through jr high. I am wondering about the benefits of doing Algebra 2 right after Algebra 1. Then geometry after that. Is there a reason this wouldn't work? Is it better to do geometry between the 2 algebras? My second ds is due to move into geometry this next year and I am contemplating him doing Algebra 2 instead...

This year as I am looking into the Rome to Reformation and am seeing that a lot of the books are being reused from the Creation to Greeks curriculum. My current 1st Grader marks his vowels on every workbook pg/worksheet. He says it makes it easier for him to read. We have a 4 hour requirement in our state, too (Colorado). What about: P.E. (play dates at the park), Music Lessons, home economics (chores, cooking, measuring. taking care of a pet), foreign language, making cards and taking them to people at a nursing home, etc. A lot of stuff can be learning.

I'd say you use 95% of them. Seems like we had just a few that we didn't use. We used the timeline book that year. There were a couple of pages where we were barely able to squeeze them all in. I think we did something like across the top for Asia, across the middle for the Americas, and then across...
