Scheduling Logic in 9th grade

I was wondering how Logic is scheduled for 9th grade. Does MFW recommend a certain way to do it and, if not, how did YOU do it? ;) We are about half way through The Fallacy Detective this year (8th grade) so I'm wondering if we should step it up and finish it this year or just plan on including it ...

Re: Preschool Packages, ECC, and AHL (too much?)

I didn't do anything formal with my boys until they were 4 (they are twins). I did get Before Five in a Row, and spent some time each day reading a book from there and maybe do one fun little activity, but activities were optional.

Reading struggles 7yo

My 7 yo dd in 1st grade is having struggles with reading. She just turned 7 in February. She is on the Ruth story in the Bible reader and read that really well. But when I took her back to the first story (creation) to show her how far she's come (to boost her confidence), she struggled with the wo...

Re: Ancient History and Lit with two students

I think it would depend on your kids. I have twins (only in 6th right now) and one is dyslexic, so I will probably have 2 copies, so they can each work at their own pace. I would hate for one to have to wait on the other. My oldest just went through AHL last year, and I would agree that if your kids...

Re: Suggestions for pacing in K

{Hugs} - having 2 out of 3 (most likely) dyslexic kids... I can tell you, it's not *that* scary :) I find my dyslexic kids just need more drilling and repetition than my non-dyslexic. I have to model things way more for them, over and over, before it clicks. Yes, we adjust and accommodate, but MFW i...

High school Literature supplements

What do these contain exactly, both the one for AHL and WHL? Since there's no sample, I'm trying to figure out what is in them! Hi Anna, In AHL it contains the writing assignments for writing the argumentative essay, and then questions and quizzes for some of the literature. WHL doesn't have a lite...

MFW WH (10th)

I'm curious on how this program is going those using it this year. How do you like it? Favorites? Time it takes, how the writing is going, pros, cons, everything really. It's going pretty well. More writing assignments. History and Bible are fine. There are times when she has to catch up on the wee...

Re: 11th Grade - Tests

Just wanted to encourage you. My oldest is in 10th grade, doing WHL this year (Has been doing MFW since 3rd grade). And every now and then on a question for history, her answer will either have too much of not the right information, or not enough information for a good answer. When I see it, we go o...

Re: How do you use All in One English?

Skipped the pretest. My boys write in the book. We do a lesson a day, two days a week (my boys are also doing Intermediate Language Lesson 3 days a week - but I need fuller days 5 days a week because of state requirements, so that helps). I go over it with my boys, and do at least the first question...

For those of you who have have done WHL, does it make more sense for my 10th grade son to do APA style (he's getting ready to write his rough draft), which is what I learned in graduate school... and what I hear colleges require? Re: General Science

My oldest is dyslexic. I bought the audio mp3 for her to listen to as she followed along. I also go the Student Notebook. That was very helpful for learning to take notes. And, by the time she got to Biology, she didn't need the Student Notebook any longer, or the mp3. I also bought pre-made flash c...

Advice for 8th Grade

If you had one year (8th) left before tackling MFW AHL, would you do ECC? Or something else? For an independently working 8th grader. We are currently using Notgrass' Adam to Us for 7th. Also, for those who have used AHL - what sort of skills are prerequisite to completing the high school level wor...

Re: Anyone memorize the entire book of James?

I think we managed about half-way through James 4. We ended up getting our required days in for our school year by then, so we stopped and I just finished reading the Bible and History and Science for the rest of the year. But, it is doable. Even my boys (they were 2nd graders) did great with Plan A.

Re: School supplies for AHL

For math and science, my dd is using quad-rule composition notebooks (she got hooked on these from a math class she took at co-op).

Otherwise, she used spiral notebooks for taking notes in and writing answers to the questions for History.

Cycling back to ECC - bought in 2010 - update??

I purchased ECC in 2010 (manual is copyright 2002, 2009), and I purchased the student sheets then, for my daughter to do now, she was in K then, and entering 5th now. I didn't want my manual to be outdated an unable to use it again. I'm so glad I did, because money is tighter than ever this summer!...
