I purchase the book in the booklist that have stars beside them and we borrow the rest that we can get from the library.

Re: Trying to decide about God and the History of Art...

Hi Tammy,
We are half way through CtG. So far my 10yo has done all of the assignments and reading in God and the History of Art. He is doing it independently and not having a problem with it - it's actually been one of his favorite things about this year.

Re: Saxon vs Teaching Textbooks?

Saxon has been widely used with success by lots of people for a long time - and it is also cost-effective compared to many other curriculums. Also because it is made for school use it has a scope and sequence that is on par with most schools - so people who have to do yearly testing don't need to wo...

Re: Starting RtR in January and need advice on de-Sonlighting

Narration is sort of built into the program too through as notebooking - these would be written narrations (you can write what they dictate ) or illustrations of what was read or learned. I appreciate this being part of the program because I forget to do the oral narrations regularly.

Re: Starting RtR in January and need advice on de-Sonlightin

I've just spent some time reading past posts and have found them extremely helpful. I'm just going to take a leap of faith next Monday and do the MFW schedule as scheduled :~ I really feel that this is where God is leading our family, I now need to trust and take that step of obedience in faith :) ...

Re: Creation question...how does MFW present it?

I am not a 'young-earther' and we are successfully using MFW thus far. There wasn't really anything in ECC to deal with last year. K and First have a little bit of content that I grazed over, but nothing that affected the programs as a whole. This year we are doing CtG. I didn't use the dinosaur boo...

Re: What to do if K'er finishes K early ??

Going through the 'Learn to Read' section on starfall.com would be great preparation for First. It picks up about where K leaves off. Also my kids could have used more pratice with writing numbers and letters before starting First.

My middle ds was very resistent in the first few weeks of First. I decided to go with starfall.com for a couple of weeks and then ease into First. This worked beautifully with him. My 5yo is still resistant sometimes (because he just wants to play), and now I give him a time-out right away if he is ...

ECC too hard for 2nd grader?

We did adventures last year, so now we're doing ECC. (We started homeschooling last January.) We just started ECC last week. My 7 year old has always been very bright and has done very well in school. Adventures was a breeze for her and my 8 year old son. It's maybe not so much that ECC is hard (b/...

We do the same as Julie with 3 sepreate reading times, except I will sometimes read a book basket book during history time if I am particularly interested in it :) (that's why I read the history books out loud as well - I'm enjoying my own education). I plan on getting Homer on CD because I have hea...

Right now Chandler (fourth grade) is doing short copywork about two or three times a week (Hero Tales character traits, Scripture, some ILL) and doing dictation of sentences that I am writing based on his spelling words. I just wanted to pop in here as a Canadian and say that there isn't really a commonly practiced tradition of 'tea' here as far as I know - certainly not like it is in England. I have many friends who spend very little on curriculum - a lot of them only teach LA and math. I on the other hand spend a lot of money on curriculum and I have received those comments you are talking about. I sometimes feel bad about it (mostly when I have to ask my dh for the money :) ). Then I r...

Once he picked up the cursive a bit I required him to write ...
