Re: should I just go back to spelling power ?

3rd year here as well. All of the spelling curriculums are good. If you already own SP, you might give it a second try and see if it "fits" better a second time around. :)

Not seeing how the cycle works as you add kids in?

I like how our next years will look....next year I'll have one child in 1st and one in 4th doing ECC...the 1st grader can listen in as she pleases with ECC so I'm sure she'll glean some good information and be ready to jump in for 2nd grade with the next level. But then I have a 3rd child who will ...

An only child with ECC

DD and I will be diving into ECC this fall. We've used MFW since PreK and because she's an only, our days are fairly straightforward and quick. We finish a full Adv day in about 3 hours, maybe 3 hours and 15. We use the MFW recs for math and lang arts and we'll be doing cursive connections as well ...

The Botany is an interesting summer-time study, if you do "summer school." Both books are good additions to the Book Basket. :)

Science question for Expl-1850...

We are using Expl-1850 for "seventh" grade. There are already two science books in the package: Animals and Botany, so do we purchase and include the Apologia General Science, as well? Thanks, Rhonda Yes. A 7th grader uses only the Apologia science that you purchased separately. You can use the sci...

Re: Loving MFW...just ordered for my 3rd year in a row!

We'll start year #5 in July, and have the same thoughts as you. Our girls have learned tremendously more in science, geography and history since we've used MFW. Last weekend, my brother-in-law came to visit. He has a PhD in theology. 8] After having a conversation with our girls, I heard him in my d...

Re: Curriculum expo

We purchased our curriculum for this coming school year (1850-Mod) in January, but I still attended the curriculum display in our state last month. :~ I like to talk with other Moms who use MFW (in person ;) ). And I like to look at the next year's curriculum and get familiar with it, in case I want...

I am looking for some input as I plan this next year. I am planning to do Adventures with my 3rd grader. I will buy a second set of student sheets for my 1st grader so she can join in. Should I purchase another set for my child in pre-k? He will be 5 in December, but I am not planning to do K with ...

She's just kept going. She really like WS. Also, I've not been very thorough with her in teaching WS. Just let her so it on her own. So had I been more involved I could have slowed her pace a bit. Life, babies, ect got on the way of that. Lol. She's done well despite me. :-D This year, we asked our...

Re: Kindergarten with ECC?

In order to keep him focused, I draw a circle on the whiteboard for each activity I want him to complete in that sitting. For example, if I want him to do 5 activities I draw 5 circles. He then marks off a circle after each activity. This helps him to stay focused and on task as he can see progress...

Kindergarten with ECC?

I posted recently about my hope to use ECC next year with my fourth and second graders. I didn't want to overwhelm myself in my second year homeschooling, my first year teaching three kids, and with another 3.5 year old and 1 year old at home. I was thinking it would be simpler to focus on ECC, wit...

We are planning on starting 1st in April after taking a week or two off after finishing Kindergarten. Re: Why can't I find any long term MFW users?

Hi. :) We've been using MFW for K, 1st, and are in the 4th year of the 5-year cycle. We love MFW, for reasons listed by the other Moms above. :-) I don't use other homeschooling boards because this board answers all of my questions. Just a side note ... have you seen the " Ideas - Adventures in U.S....

Re: Story of the World

I do understand your concerns about SOTW, as I've had them myself. I have zero interest in ever using SOTW *by itself*. But put in the context of Marie's notes and the overall MFW program (their philosophy and goals through the years), I think they're a fine choice. :) Just agreeing over here... :)

It seems like we always run out of things to do this time of year. The snow is too deep to play in. My 3 year old can't even walk in it. Ditto that. :) We, too, are so thankful for how well each year's curriculum has been put together. It's easy to use, yet the indepth content provides a rich education we could not have gotten anywhere else. Encouragment - When teen does not want to homeschool

Teen does not want to homeschool We are in a bind with our 7th grade daughter. She is dependent on the peer group and our opinion of anything does not matter. The...
