Re: Question about Bible notebook in 1st

I agree with not over-correcting - however my daughter would point out words and ask me if they were wrong. In that case - I would tell her the truth & show her the correct spelling. This seemed to work fine. However - I keep a 'word bank' in my Spelling Power activity task card box. I use notecards...

Re: Going crazy

There are always bumpy times - but that's true in anybody's life and all types of schedules. This is my 5th year to homeschool...and I finally feel like I've established some normalcy & routine. But that may be different next week!! ;) I have adult children I sent to public school and finally decide...

Re: Art Confession

groan!!! I want to keep up with art - but it is just not happening!! Thankfully both were able to take art classes in co-op - but with pre-schoolers (I babysit), church, co-op, school (and sometimes not so willing participants in school work)....art gets pushed aside more than I want!! Reading is re...

Re: Read-alouds & Crying

I'm all over this one - my kids look at me when the story starts looking a bit emotional and they say 'you aren't going to cry are you'? But on the other hand - I've seen my dc look away at times - apparently didn't want me to see a tear or two in their eyes! Love these great stories!

Re: Augustus Caesar's World...really enjoying RTR

Thanks Julie - that is about what I thought - I just didn't know what to call it...ugh!! I hate that - for some reason I must have slept when my very particular English teacher discussed genres!! (By the way - she would have marked right through the word 'very' as she thought that was an over-used a...

Re: God and history of Art

I copy from the book...unless it is just an empty box that they are to sketch into - in which case I have them work in their art journal. I buy a nice sketch pad every year for each of them and we paste loose pages into it or sketch / draw in the journal.

Re: Writing paper for 2nd grade??

Thanks Katie - I actually did find a thinner lined paper with the mid-line on Donna Young's site. It has worked great - she was not doing such nice work on the regular notebook paper, but the lined paper from DY is helping her - her handwriting is beautiful (when she uses it). I like that the lines ...

I have yet to find the perfect planner either! Last year I wrote the math, spelling, english, etc. into the MFW guide in pencil - but I would not have been able to squeeze in enough for 2 kids - so this year I found a really cheap planner for a teacher at the $1 store. It has nice big boxes for abou...

Re: Work during reading?

Mine enjoy journalling while I read - maybe not everyday - but I have the journals ready anytime they want to do it while I read and they often do. I keep a bradded folder with plain paper in the brads and they date it at the top and write the story title, topic or scripture passage we are reading a...

Re: CTG: English From The Roots Up Sentences

Hard to say for sure - mine was 11 doing this last year - but my 2nd grader who will be 8 in September starts this next week for RTR - so I will be trying to figure out what works best for a younger child. However - my 11 year old wanted to make SUPER simple sentences instead of trying harder...such...

Re: singapore ?

Flash cards are simple and no fuss...but they pay off. However we like variety - so sometimes I have my kids 'write' the facts in copywork form. We also use math games that encourage them to use their facts and other skills. The more we 'play' the better their math skills are. Some of my favorites (...

Re: 1st Bible notebook - child spelling words correct/wrong

I wonder if the idea marie tries to give with notebooking is to let them get their ideas down without getting bogged down on it being a perfect first try. Things can be edited as needed. But ideas can be lost. Yes...that sounds like that is really what it said - I just couldn't remember for sure an...

Re: 1st Bible notebook - child spelling words correct/wrong

Thanks Trish...that's what I was concerned about is her learning it wrong - and then having to re-learn the correct spelling. Using Markers in 1st Bible Notebook

I was wondering if anyone had used markers in the Bible Notebook and if they had any problems with them bleeding through the pages? With Drawing With Children suggesting the use of markers, I'm guessing that would carry over to the bible notebook, but I didn't want to ruin my son's notebook with th...

My dd is in 1st & this fall will start in the 5 yr cycle for her 1st official year in RTR. She was in kindy during ECC. However - she has picked up some in observing (as I think Lindy said). Also - CTG covers maps really well, but mostly in the portion of Asia & Africa where the history is focused. ...

Has MFW Successfully Prepared Students Who Went To Colle

We have successfully used MFW since my oldest sons mid-K year. He will be going into 3rd next year. I am thinking more and more about the 'long-haul' of home schooling. I am struggling some with the thoughts of 'home schooling' versus the 'text book' method I experienced as a student. I know from a...

Not sure about where your dd will align with reading...but we are doing CTG & 1st together and it is a really nice fit. Thank you so much for posting this. We strayed once to another English because I just wasn't sure if ILL would be enough.
