spelling power

If I buy Spelling Power through MFW, does it come with an instruction book (or lesson suggestions)? I have seen the book before, and it looks like just a bunch of spelling lists. How do I know what to do with those lists? Also, do people actually use the CD? I haven't used Spelling Power (We are in...

Re: Storing Student pages

I go through the pages and pull out anything that looks like it should be be 3-hole punched. I 3-hole punch everything that is appropriate and I put the other sheets in a pocket file folder. (A clear plastic ones like above would work too.)

I think it would be worth it.

Yes, all the student sheets are included in the download.

PDF sounds great to me!! ;) I will do that when the time comes for us too.

Re: New with questions

Our house is plenty large enough for a dedicated school room....I won't say how big because well.....it's a lot bigger than those mentioned here. We choose not to have one. It works better for me to be out in the open where I can see all the kids and I'm right in the middle of everything. I have 6 k...

Re: Math placement after 1st grade

We use Singapore. But, we stared with 1A about 3 months after starting first. He will finish 1B before the summer is over. He will start with 2A either with Adv for 2nd grade or shortly after starting. (We school year round. So, we'll start Adv around mid-June even if we aren't done with 1B yet.) If...

Adventures: Bible & History, together or separate??

Hi all, I wanted to go ahead and set up the History Notebook with the pages already in it. But I see that the Bible & History pages are mixed together. Are they taught together much like 1st grade or are they more separate subjects that can be done completely separately? From a quick look over the ...

Re: Need some help with explaining Singapore methods

I strongly suggest you get the Home Instructors Guide. I could not teach it without it, personally. Tons of ideas on how to teach it. You can see samples on the Singapore website. Also, PM me for some wonderful free online videos that really help getting the concepts down in 1a and b. She uses manip...

How do you do MFW in 4 days a week?

I am excited to try MFW in the fall. I will have a dd in 3rd Grade and a dd in K. We attend a weekly Co-op and I am wondering how people have arranged the material to fit in the 4 days that are left for the week. I am sure there are many others who attend Co-op classes and have found ways that work...

Anyone planning to read the Bible along with child(ren)

My dd is starting mfw1st and am becoming inspired to be more deliberate about sticking with my own devotional time. I'm thinking I could do a Bible reading plan so I also read through the Bible Stories and proverbs daily. Then I could also just read what she's reading, but I am thinking reading the...

That is pretty much what we did and we are finishing up now. I have a lot of little kids right now, 6 who are 7 and under (see siggy). Right now, we do what is most important...Bible/history and phonics/LA. We did all the LA's in the program including the Bible Notebook and copywork. Also, you could...

He is still loving it and even told me today that he doesn't think 2nd will be as much fun as first. He has really love, LOVED It! Ha ha! That is exactly how we felt when we were finishing Adventures: "Next year won't be as much fun as this..." I'm happy to say that every year has been much loved. ...

Supplies for Siblings - Math manipulatives, Student sheets

I have triplets and I'm going to use MFW for 1st grade next year. I ordered the basic kit for 1st grade and it includes one box of 100 Unifix cubes. If I plan on doing things together, as opposed to one kid at a time, should I get 2 more boxes of the cubes? Should I get more than one of the Animal ...

Re: How to organize student sheets for K?

I got myself a 3" 3 ring binder. I got dividers with pockets for all the units. Then, I 3-hole punched all the student sheets and put them in there behind their unit. In the back, I had a section for the calendars and other random stuff like the badges. I didn't 3-hole punch my calendars. I put the ...

I know MFW teaches with a Biblical World view. I have seen that in MFW1 in particular through the study of the OT and NT. We have completed cycle 1 in MFW's curriculum. I haven't gone on at this point to cycle 2 for a variety of reasons. I am wondering though if those of you who have used the 2nd c...

Having only skimmed the other responses.... I would absolutely get the HIG (Home Instructor's Guide). I can do math, but I don't remember the processes nor do I have a clue how to teach it. Personally, I would have no clue how to actually teach the text book without it (even if I could do the work)....

Okay, just randomly answering...Keep in mind I've done K and am 2/3rds through the 1st edition of 1st. Hands on includes crafts, songs and activities, such as painting a sun, making raisins, making a poster with the animals of Africa on it all in K or making Lentil stew, or small clay pots, dressing...

What are they exactly? I've read that for ECC there's many maps that they will label, and coloring pages, but what else? Are they q&a type worksheets or note booking sheets? What are they like? Re: MFW1st/MUS/AAR/Adventures.... help?!

Not totally sure what to advise as far as skipping 1st altogether. I'm not sure I would want to even if my child didn't totally need the phonics because the Biblical history/focus is 1st is so wonderful to us. However, it is very phonics focused. So, it's really hard to say. My son has an Oct b-day....
