Re: Sonlight vs. MFW

When I think of all the frustration that I experienced using SL for our first 4 years...but I didn't know about MFW at the time. Now SL is well thought out and I appreciate all that the company has tried to do, it just wasn't for us and I feel it took me too long to realize it. My kids were frustrat...

Re: Staying on task/balancing act

Hi, I hope you're having a better day today! :) I just wanted to add that it can be challenging when there is a big gap in ages. I would suggest doing your main one on one teaching when the 1 year old is napping. If you don't have a set schedule for when the 1 y o takes a nap, that might be your fir...

Re: Library books - frustration

This thread makes me feel so grateful to be a part of a good library system where we can request an unlimited amount of books for free from our entire county system! The books come quickly, are placed on a shelf for about 10 days for me to get them and I can renew them all I want as long as nobody e...

Re: I need playing outside/exercise suggestions for my 5yo D

Hi, not sure if this will help, but my kids climb trees, jump rope, hula hoops, hopscotch, play tag, swing, slide, ride bikes, and generally run around and yell. :) Maybe if she doesn't enjoy the outside, you could get a tumbling mat for inside and do some things with her. Even climbing thru some in...

Combining 1st and Older Program - What is Realistic?

Hi Everyone, Convention is just 2 weeks away! I'm hoping to get my 1st grade package, and maybe CtG as well. I'll have a 5th grader and a 1st grader. And a toddler (2 in August) who really, really, really wants to do EVERYTHING the big kids are doing, but is still in the "I eat crayons and books" s...

Re: Work expectations for a 5th grader?

My 5th grade DD is also my firstborn, so I'm learning as I go with her on how hard to push her. I pretty much settle for a good attitude and a strong attempt at her work and I'm satisfied. (I want her to do her best effort). If that means she could only come up with two sentences for something to wr...

Re: Why use MFW?

I feel MFW is balanced in terms of activities (hands on) and being able to get it all done. The books are read at a little slower pace and we tend to remember them better, because they are "flying by." MFW takes us including math from about 8am to 1pm to complete everything. My dd in eighth grade a...

Re: Youngest age for ECC

I assume she's already done the 1st grade program? :) My 7 y.o. is tagging along with older siblings for ECC, but he's also doing 1st grade too. You might want to seriously slow it down and take maybe 2 school years to complete ECC. The content is doable (not overly complex), just take it really slo...

Re: MFW for 1st follow a 4 day schedule? did Sonlight for K

I just wanted to say that we just switched and we're on week 7 of ECC. I feel my sanity returning. :)

I just ordered the 1st grade MFW for my 7 y.o. I think we're going to LOVE it.
