A Week Off from ECC and Excited to Start Again!

We started school at the end of June and took this past week off with ECC because we had all day soccer camps. I missed it! I am ready to get back into ECC! The kids are too! :)

What a great feeling to love your curriculum so much you can't wait to start it back up after a break!

Best ages to read Kingdom Tales?

We just finished our 2nd week of ECC and started reading Kingdom Tales. I'm wondering if my kids are a little too young for it (the oldest is 8-almost 9). They don't really seem to be "getting" it. I have read so many posts about how people loved the book and I am just curious what ages your kids w...

Re: Doing ECC and MWFK ... Thoughts, ideas, etc?

Kathleen, I would say it takes us about 45-50 minutes for my girl. That includes some practice writing her numbers 1-20. We are struggling with the number 3. She writes it at a HUGE slant. LOL Once I start with her, I try to keep going because she doesn't do as well with a break and then returning. ...

Doing ECC and MWFK ... Thoughts, ideas, etc?

Looking forward to MFW this year. Had an awesome meet-up with the folks in Boise, ID and it really helped settle my decision, plus get my hubby involved! THANKS!!! :D We have already settled on ECC for our 2nd, 3rd and 6th grader this year, although I'm planning to get the 7th/8th supplement ... We...

Re: How do you store student pages before use?

I took apart my teacher's manual..... %| and then I hole punched it and put it in a 3 ring binder. Each child has a color and I put their sheets according to the week/their color behind it. Then I can take out the entire week at a time or just grab the sheets as I need them. I wanted them all in one...

How do you do school?

Do you just work on the different subjects until they are completed for the day no matter how long it takes? Or do you stick to a schedule and say you have 15 (or whatever) minutes to get a certain subject done and then move on to the next whether it is finished or not? In the past I have kind of d...

Re: Could y'all help me organize my day?

Stephanie, I read your last post and was just thinking about schedules and a tip that works for me. I do not write specific times. I do block schedules. So I don't say 8:30-9:30 math, etc. I say Block 1. Having times written down stresses me out and I always feel behind and rushed. So, i work in blo...

Day 1 of ECC and MFW K

Had a glorious day with my kids! LOOOOOOOOVED ECC! I never liked geography and now I can't wait to study it too with the kids. I am going to like Kindergarten, just had to figure out a few extras to challenge my little girl until we hit blending. :) Thanks for the advice to those that helped me with...

Thanks everyone for answering and the suggestions. I am still looking through archives and threads. :) I like the idea of games to review. Hello. Hugs. I admire your commitment to Dave Ramsey as it will pay off so much later for you! I don't know that I have a solution, but I will share what I am doing. I have a Kindergartener this year and we are starting next week. I am shooting for 3 days a week for the first month with it being sum...

Re: Organizing the kiddos: their stuff and their schedule

Each kid has a milk crate of their own for their books, binders, etc.

Then, I have a milk crate for the main/shared things.

We work from these and the kids know where to put their things back. :)

We start in a couple weeks. It will be our first year with MFW. My 7th grader and 3rd grader will be doing ECC. :) I can't wait. My oldest will have a bit more to do than younger brother, but that works. And, we actually will be jumping from ECC to the last of the 5 year cycles. My oldest wants to s...

I really (REALLY) want to save ECC for 8th grade

Alright ladies (& gents if there are any out there), I need to get it off my chest. ECC looks fun and interesting, especially the Book Basket. My kids would probably love it. We have five years before my oldest is in High School. I have thought long and hard about this (for months and months to my ...

I have a 7th grader, 3rd grader, and Kindergartener this year. :) I know my numbers are not as many or as young as yours. LOL But, I will comment on my middle one last year. We worked to make him more independent. I would start him and then he would work on things. He could copy his own spelling lis...

Re: Conflicted on when to start MFWK

I have a 5 year old who will start MFWK this summer. (We school year round and take breaks when desired) She is my youngest and BEGGED all last year for school. We started with HOD's LHTH and in the end we scrapped it and read and played. She wanted school like her brothers, but really wanted to "pl...

Re: A Schedule Board?

I made a photocopy of the MFW grids for each child in a different color. So, each week, oldest (12) will be given his blue sheet with all assignments written in. He will mark them off as he does his independent work. Same for middle (8). Kindergartener has her own grid sheet and she will mark off as...

We participate in a weekly co-op in the fall/spring months. PE is a part of that. I have to laugh when you said jumping jacks. I will have a 3rd grader next year too. We will use some book basket for reading time. But, my son has started reading the Boxcar Children. He will have a chapter assigned a day from that. At least one, maybe 2. Oldest brother (7th grader) reads before bed. He is on the Kane Chronicles Series. I hav...

Re: MFW high school

I don't start high school for 2 more years. I know it looks independent, but who is to say you cannot have a daily meeting? Why only do it once a week? Make daily check in something you do......and as your dd gains moere confidence, maybe you don't meet daily.
