I switched my kids last year and wondered the same thing. Since it was our first year I hesitated to do too much but this year we are moving at 2 lessons a day sometimes. Mind you this is with an older child so working for 45 minutes is not too long for her most days. Some of the lessons are short a...

I think that Winkie was getting at this too but you are not expected to have your child do all of the pages that are in the book. As she said sometimes they only did one sheet because they just did not need it and as another poster said her kids did them because they liked them. So do not feel that,...

Great ideas from Crystal. I agree about the sound identification being more important than the letter name at this point. One thing that may be helpful to is having her trace the textured letter while she is saying the sound. This is called sound writing and I did it with my daughter in first grade....

Singapore - Tests & grades?

I am a new MFW user and I use most of their recommendations including Singapore math. My question is, are there any tests available for SM? I have seen Federal Test Papers mentioned from time to time. Do I need them? I would like a way to give grades, although I'm still struggling with whether I sh...

Pam, First of all every year starts slowly giving you and your kids time to easy back into school. I like this because it gives us time to establish some good habits for the year before adding everything. We are finishing our 2nd week and I have really enjoyed the slow pace but I know it will not la...

Most of the time I am just able to rearrange the week so that we get everything done within the week. Once or twice in the year I will take 2 weeks to finish one week. Since we have those extra weeks like Julie mentioned it all works out. So just push everything over a day in your mind and finish up...

Re: Copywork for a first grader in Adventures

I think the suggestions that you are getting are right on track. If it helps any to know that the progression in the MFW 1 is very slow and by the end of the year they are writing anywhere from 3 to 5 sentences on their own. They suggest that they start off with just writing a title or a couple of w...

Praying for you and knowing that God will help you work out what is best for your family. You could do the first together the following year and then Adventures together after that. You would just add the appropriate languager arts and math for the 2nd grader. Wow "afterschoolling" ! What an idea an...

I am so glad you had a good first week and lots of fun too. All of the MFW years start slow for the first couple of weeks. This is one thing that I love about MFW. The amount of time will of course depend on your student but usually MFW 1 is about an 1 1/2 -2 hours a day. Eventually there will be ne...

Because Adventures does not flow into the other years of history and is only an overview of American history, you will start your timeline over with CTG.
