Most of the writing I mentioned is copywork. The science lesson page however could be dictated to you and she could do the artwork herself. My kids usually choose to use tracing paper for the science art. There are also 2 geography vocabulary cards each week. The younger students only do one. This a...

Will 1st grader miss the whole foundational ECC year?

Hi, this is our first year homeschooling. We are not really enjoying school. I am praying about switching to MFW. I have all girls 4th, 1st, 4 year old, and 22 month old. If I do change to MFW, I don't know if I should go with MFW 1 and ECC. My concern is next year then it seems that the 1st grader...

My eight year old son has always had a strong interest in science and was exposed to evolution at an early age. We have explained to him the difference between creation and evolution all throughout his exploration of this subject. Dinosaurs by Design has been a favorite at our house with all the boy...

ECC Science

I went ahead and ordered extra books. I can't wait until they get here! I really want them to be together as a group when we do Bible, Science, Geography and Book Basket. I think this will work out great for us. Thanks for the advice. I love this board! [Read how this turned out: http://board.mfwboo...

We have been doing book basket in the afternoon in between their geography and science lesson. The baby is taking a nap then, and it makes for a nice quiet time for me and them. They all sit in the same room with the basket on the floor. They can read or just look at books. I did have to tell my 8 y...

I agree that Spelling Power does not take a lot of time. There is a bit of a learning curve at the beginning so the lessons probably take 15 minutes without the activity time. After you get used to it, you could probably finish the book portion, test and review, in 10 minutes. We have yet to add the...

I have not used MFW yet, but I have homeschooled for 5 years and we've used a variety of different things. I think this style of teaching will be more rewarding for you as well. I'm so looking forward to the things I will learn along with my kids. I love it that there is a spiritual emphasis woven i...

SP - (Sp. Power) - Instructions are in MFW guides (and here)

Just wanted to let you know how great Spelling Power is working for us. We've been using it for 4-6 weeks now and my daughter (age 10) loved it from the beginning and still loves it! My daughter is by no means a natural speller. So the program is definitely successful. She rarely needs to repeat a m...

Poetry memorization (and other memory work)

Does anyone have their dc memorize all the poems? Many of them are really long. I have struggled with this as well with my 10 year old daughter. She usually ends up being able to do it fairly well in the end, but it is like pulling teeth to get her to do it and tends to become a battle. I've tried ...
