Re: I need help with teaching 2 children the 5 yr. cycle.

Hello, I'm wondering how you teach a 2nd grader and 4th grader the 5 year cycle at the same time? My girls are in K-5 and 2nd grade right now but just wondering how that will work when I get around to it. I know I know way in advance right? :) Just not sure how you buy the books since they are on d...

Re: Making lapbooks with ECC

We did a South America lapbook with ECC. It was our first experience with lapbooks so I purchased a download. It was pretty fun and took about 3 afternoons. We didn't make a big deal out of it so it was more like browsing all the info rather than an extension of the formal learning we were already d...

Re: Two time lines?

We did 1st and CtG last year... We put our string line on the wall and attached the dates to the wall with tape. Then we hung 1st's images on the line with paperclips and added any extra/different from CtG right above the line where needed. We ended up having more of one child's work than the other ...

Re: English from the Roots Up pre-made cards

I agree that by having them make the cards they retain more. I did like Lainie and printed the word on the front, but had dd make the green 'border' with a green marker tracing around a smaller index card. By doing this all at once, I wasn't tempted to skip it. I don't remember what the TM says abou...

Michelle, I've been reading the posts and sort of storing all the info in my mind. ;) I just had to comment now because I've spoken to David also regarding these type issues. Well, for me I was calling the office for spelling/reading help about a month ago and leaving a message for the 'specialist'....

Re: standardized testing newbie

What is the worst that can happen if your child were to absolutely BOMB the test? Okay, now chances are your child won't "bomb" the test but will do somewhere between below average to stellar, where most kids fall. Remind yourself and your kids that the testing is not that big of a deal. I tell my ...

Thank you Julie for replying and the link. I knew there had been talk before but couldn't find the thread. We enjoyed the cards.

I wanted to comment about using the cards. Make sure you get the 4x6 cards. We did, but dd(4th grd) still had trouble writing small enough to fit everything on the card.

Toni,
thank you so much for sharing this. I too, have loved the teachable moments in CtG year and especially the timeline of other events placed "inside" our bible timeline.

Re: Bible in 1st

You want to have something to let them look at and hold instead of just listening to you read that part to them, right? While I read the story from the TM my dd colored the illustration in the bible reader then she read the story from her reader. On rare occasions she wanted to know more of the sto...

Letter writing scheduled in ECC?

I was looking at the sample of ECC and noticed that on Fridays the dc are to write a letter. Are there specific instructions as to whom they are to write each week and what they are supposed to write about? Just curious. Thanks! I don't have my TM handy but I believe the description is written in o...

Thank you, Dena! I do feel good about having decided to finish ECC in the fall. I totally understand your friend's view of picking an ending date and just being done. School will end for us June 9, and we will take a summer break. I've decided to resume ECC in the fall because I really want to fini...

Tammy, I completely understand about feeling behind and the need to catch up or to get ahead enough to have a break. you see, we've moved alot. I haven't finished a school year on time yet. I strive to and this year I've finally began to simply enjoy the learning. I'm still behind because of our las...

Should I teach the K curriculum to my 5-year old and do "Adventures in MFW" with my 2nd grader? Hi Mississippi Jenni, Crystal is right, they are detailed (and not overwhelming). For example, it includes word for word sections of what you read/explain to your child on any particular day. You can expand on that as well, but for me that was wonderful when starting homeschooling. I like that it is...

We, too, loved making the wigwams and had very little trouble after we figured out to hold one end of the piece of paper while dipping the other end in glue and using that glue-dipped end to 'drag' the glue where we needed it on the framework. It is one of my favorite memories of Adventures. Dena us...
