Re: Nervous she will get bored

Posted: Fri Sep 29, 2006 8:37 pm Dear shasas, I am very much in the same position with my 6dd. She just loves to read, read and read some more. She reads many chapter books already. Last year we did MFW K and I thought it would be boring for her since she could already read so well. We all ended up...

When I was introducing place value, I used the math sense blocks that MFW offers with the K package. They are kind of like Cuisinaire rods. They have really helped my dd "see" the numbers. And when I introduced the hundred's place, she was really confused until I used these blocks and then she saw i...

Babies - Slings, carriers, more ideas

Thank you baby sling!! I just want to thank those that have suggested using a baby sling. I am definitely not one that is sold on attachment parenting, but this sling has really helped me. I have dd6, dd3.5, and dd1. The one year old is such a mommy's girl. I have done lots of things to train her t...

snickelfritz, I hope you have been encouraged by the postings here. I know I always am when I ask for wisdom and advice. I just want to encourage you that God has called you to be the mommy of two little girls and has called you to teach them. In His strength, you are going to do a great job. Your e...

Just my two cents: (no hard feelings if you disagree :) I would highly suggest doing something else when your dd is 4. My oldest dd was a very early reader and very mature. Had I known about MFW when she was 4, I would have chosen it thinking it was perfect. I think she would have done fine, but she...

Art - Drawing with Children vs. I Can Do All Things

Hi everyone....well I have all my stuff and I was looking through the Adventures I can do all things art book.......and the first grade artbook Drawing with Children and the Drawing with children looked to be more challenging than the other one. Is it just me? I haven't read through it but there se...

Welcome!!

Welcome!! Last year my 5dd was reading like yours is now. I did not do the phonics portion either. I just let her enjoy her kindergarten year. I did have her read to me everyday and of course I read to her also. That is what helped her with her reading. I have thought about what Crystal said she did...

For us we had days like you shared also. Some days my children were more interested than others. I agree with has already been said. I would not sweat about what it looks like they are learning. This year you just want to introduce them to God's wonderful world. There will be some things that excite...

Re: Does MFW 1st grade include phonics rules?

Posted: Sat Sep 02, 2006 3:01 pm Phonics rules: Yes. We are on day #18. Every day we have gone over a phonics rule. There is also a reading chart that is helpful for reviewing the rules. Looking at the table of contents, I can see how phonics rules will continually be introduced throughout the year.

I used another unit study for about 2 months and switched to MFW. I love the book but it was a little laborious and dry. We love to read all day, but it didn't work well. It was not cohesive. I really love how MFW revolves around God's word. We still read all day, but there is more purpose. For K, M...

Books - Encyclopedias & Info Books for MFW-K

This is probably a really dumb question, but what do you use for MFWK if you don't have a set of encyclopedias? Is there a list of alternative books you can use? I would hate to have to go search for books each week. Gayle There are some suggestions other than the encyclopedia for some of the topic...

The best part is when we do My Father's World!!

We are finishing up the school year here. This morning I had my daughter write what she liked best about her school year. The first thing on the list said "When we did My Father's World." I think that says it all. Even though I had considered MFW, we started with a different curriculum at the beginn...

butterfly activity

After we read the verses from Day 2 (and I add the fruit of the Spirit from Galatians, too) my dd drew a pictures of a caterpillar on one paper (we labeled this "the old self") and a butterfly on the other (we labeled this "the New Self"). Then we listed what we are to "put off" on the caterpillar p...

You can do it!!

Kristi, I am a very similar situation. I have a almost 6 yr old dd, a almost 3 yr old dd and a 6 month old. I too was very frightened at the thought of having the new baby around. We were just barely getting adjusted to hsing and then the baby was here. I tried to be brief :), but the following are ...

I have been thinking about writing about our hsing experience this year and just have not gotten around to it. We have had a very similar experience to you. We switched to MFW K in November. I had considered it before, but I thought it would be too easy and not interesting enough for my dd who could...

Summary Sheet

At the end of each week my dd and I fill out a "summary sheet" of the week. We record the topic and Biblical concept, what we did in relation to the topic, at least 5 things she learned and her favorite book of the week. We then put it in her Kinder notebook, along with anything else we did for the ...
