Hi! You have received a variety of responses, what an interesting discussion. I wanted to add something, too. I think it is great that your dd can play several instruments! I am a vocalist and did go to college and I have a degree in music education. I don't know what the future holds for your dd, b...

Hello! I just wanted to say that I am doing MFW K this year with my dd who turned 5 in December and it's working well. She is much like your dd except that her fine motor skills are one of her strengths. Last year I did MFW K with my ds who was the opposite, fine motor skills are his greatest challe...

Posted: Mon Oct 29, 2007 2:45 pm We have a school area in our basement, which has (painted) poured concrete walls. So, I didn't even mess with yarn, we just put a long stretch of masking tape up for our line and used putty to stick the numbers above it. I may have to move it and make it longer, but...

Re: Tracing Words

Hello again! Lucy and Julie, I wonder how I will know when to try letting Joseph do more of the writing and back off of the copying? I guess I need to remember to just take it one step at a time and focus on this for now. Hey, Cyndi and Jen, no worries! I think we are on the same wavelength! I did g...

Re: Tracing Words

Thank you to all three of you! I wrote this message last night after reading another thread. At some point when I was reading that thread I felt like I was not doing enough by just letting him trace the dictated sentences. Thank you for reassuring me that this is okay! I just don't have other 1st gr...

Tracing Words

Encouragement through review, but when to move beyond tracing? My ds feels like he has to trace everything. He traces the Proverbs copywork (and at the beginning of the year, even this was a daunting task for him). Sometimes he still has to do it over two sittings, but now he does that without cryi...

We look at each flashcard as we sing it's letter sound and the name of the picture and I think seeing the cards helps us to learn it more quickly. Then we are using our voice, our ears, and our eyes!
