Re: RtR resources question

I occasionally pull some coloring pages from the AG (since I already own it) and I use some of the review questions and that kind of thing. Most of the time the activities scheduled into MFW are just right for us.

Re: Am I going too fast?

There is no reason to try and push your son ahead by a year. If you put him in ps then he would just be bored right? Just let him be who he is and don't worry about "what ifs".

Re: High School, I don't know what to do....

I really don't know what to tell you for most of that but I do know that many books are on tape. Not her math book, mind you, but history text books and novels and all kids of things can be found in an audio version. Listening to these instead of reading them may free up some of her time.

Re: Need encouragement!

Oh honey, You are right at that point with a new baby when I think I am not going to make it. Once the baby is about 3 weeks old I start to come up for air and by about 6-8 weeks old we are use to having the little dear around. Give yourself time to heal, time to get the baby to sleep a bit better a...

learning disability help

I thought I'd put this out there in case anyone has some experienced advice for me. My 9yo has been diagnosed with ADHD inattentive and a learning disability titled 'disorder of written expression'. The writing disability is not a motor problem, but more an inability to manage all the aspects of wr...

American History -Younger siblings & those starting MFW late

Concerned about no US history until year 5 My oldest did Adventures, so he has some knowledge of US history. Now that we've started the five year cycle, I guess this means that my 7 and 8 year olds won't learn any US history until four years from now??? Should I be teaching them that along with wha...

Re: Readiness skills for CtG?

I am doing R2R with kids in grades 2, 4/5 and 6. It isn't a matter of your child getting to the right level for the material, it is a matter of you assigning proper requirements for their level. The TM may say to have the kids do a notebook page about something but the specifics are up to me. There ...

Re: Can someone explain K badges?

We won't do K until next year but I don't plan to make them necklaces. I am going to "laminate each one with clear shelf paper and then use those sticky backed circles of velcro to attach them to a piece of poster board. This way little bit will be able to take them down to show people or play with ...

Why to keep MFW packages you have already used

In R2R this past week we have been learning about ancient China so I am taking an extra week and going back through some of the fun activities about China from ECC. I am very excited about this. It will be review for my oldest but A was only in first grade when we did ECC and J wasn't with us yet. T...

Re: Using other science curriculum?

I think you will like the scheduled science in MFW but science is the one thing that I have found I can substitute easily. It is not quite as tied in as the other stuff in the history years.

Re: Assigning Literature/Book basket recommendations

I assign books. My oldest does enjoy the books I assign over-all and I don't give him too many. I am able to make it fit him or fill in areas where I think he is weak. I like to expand his horizons and still keep him interested.

Re: when do you plan?

I made all of my photocopies during the Summer and they are stored in a binder. I take a quick look over the supplies and make sure I have them on Saturday because I do my shopping on Sunday night. I rearrange my week so color the boxes on the MFW week plan to match my needs (each day gets a color)....

Re: Those of you with children of multiple ages...

Unlike that program with "cores", MFW is set up to be used by the whole family together. You will find ways to make things fit a variety of ages. There are advanced readings and assignments for my 6th grader. My second grader might write a sentence about our reading, the 4/5th grader writes a 5 sent...

I let my second grader sit out most of ACW. I summarized it for her. Once you get to SOTW, it will be much better. Dd loves SOTW but she did not like ACW. Placement - Are High School Courses Grade Specific?

Just wanted to double check something... I am planning on using MFW Ancient History & Lit. for my 12th grader next year. Would the work level be appropriate? I have found that most of the high school material I've used so far has been interchangeable grade-wise (except when a higher level math is n...

I highly suggest Handwriting without Tears for Lefties. The books are specifically set up with examples on both ends of the lines so Lefties can see what they should be doing and there are instructions for how to teach a Lefty to write properly.

R2R - Nicene Creed week 13 idea

Rich Mullians has a song called "Creed" that is based on the Nicene Creed. It is paraphrased in a few places and adds a chorus to make it fit to music but it is nearly the exact words. I got it for .99 on itunes and we listened to it today. I am going to have my kids memorize the song since we tend ...

When was the last time you took a break? The holidays are here and the seasons change and it makes everyone a little edgy. Do a craft, bake, decorate the house and enjoy your kids.
