1850MOD - SOTW Activity Book

1850MOD--SOTW Activity Book--Managing the size of it

I started planning for the coming school year, and as I hefted that Story of the World Vol. 4 activity book, I thought, how on earth am I going to make copies with this bulky thing? Well, I had read in the archives that Julie had taken hers to Kinkos and had the binding cut off. She had the teacher part spiral bound and had the students sheets just put loosely in a box. I took mine to Office Max and did that same thing. It only cost me $5 and it worked out beautifully! The teacher portion is much more manageable, and the loose student sheets were much easier to copy.

I highly recommend having the binding cut and having it rebound!

That's a good idea. You can also just order the student sheets directly from Peachhill Press here (weighing my time vs cost of copying): http://peacehillpress.com/history-geogr ... es-vol.-4/

I'll probably just order those the second time through. I only had one the first time, and she just did the sheets from the book.

That's a good suggestion, Tricia. I had thought about ordering the student sheets, but opted to just go ahead and copy them instead. I don't know how much it cost me in paper and toner, but it didn't take me very long to do it...and I was making 2 copies because I have 2 students using the sheets. The copier I have at home just takes in and scans several sheets at a time, and it didn't take long to make the copies. :)

(By the way, I really enjoy reading your blog. I'm so glad you've been updating it to let us know how AHL is going for your dd. I've been following your updates with interest, as my eldest will use AHL in 2015-2016). :)

We had our copies made at the UPS store. $12 for each set; they copied the pages directly from the book (no pages torn out); and they hole-punched them.

I should have come here yesterday. I ended up ripping out the student sheets and timeline figures. Made 2 sets of copies on our old laser copier, 1 set of the figures. So now I have a master set for the next time I teach 1850MOD. Then I was left with this weird book. So I used a box cutter (razor blade thing) and sliced the binding off behind the left over teacher part and duct taped the remaining binding to ensure it won't come apart! It's not pretty, but it'll work! :) I still have to 3 hole punch the 2 sets, but it'll get done. I didn't want to pay for 2 more sets. It probably cost me the same amount in paper (used 1 ream) and toner and time. I am hoping that books like this will come with a PDF cd or something in the future...

Rebecca, Peachhill does sell a PDF version of the student pages (http://peacehillpress.com/history-geogr ... -download/)... Sorry you didn't know sooner. :(
