Agreeing with Julie, 60 min. per class is a good average. My first dd was a fast reader and English was her strength. She whizzed through her classes at 35 - 45 min. each. My next dd was a slow reader and she liked to take her time through a good story. I would say most days she spent a solid hour per class. (She learned how to pick up the pace in college ;) )Then my ds came along and he was/is a very slow reader! It is painful to watch him sit there for so long, just plugging away... He is a senior and will be going to college next fall. I suspect he will learn to read faster like his sis did ;)

After getting over the "fears" of high school with my first born, I have found the high school years to be fun in their own way. Different than elementary, of course, but it still has it's enjoyable moments with conversations and discovery at more of an adult level. Realizing our children are growing up and helping them enter the adult world is both challenging and rewarding. I noticed that developmentally, my ds took longer to get to the place where he could think analytically, as compared to my daughters. Not sure if that is a norm of boy vs. girl or not. Some of the AHL work the freshman year was challenging just because he wasn't thinking analytically yet. He was stretched!

Anyway, just be encouraged as you plan for the next stage of learning! :-) It's not all that bad ;)

A different kind of answer. My DD takes about 5-8 hours to finish an AHL day :) She moves slowly and prefers to "stretch school out all day." She starts around 9 and finishes around supper time. She could finish faster but she doesnt want to. Its not her style I guess.
