Is is possible to skip the Bible portion of each section? We do have our own Bible program.
Could we start Ancient History then move on to World history and get it all done only using the history and lit portions in 10th grade?
When a high school student is starting My Father's World high school program in the 10th grade we suggest the following: Use Ancient History and Literature in 10th grade, World History and Literature in 11th grade, and US History to 1877/Government in 12th grade. In 12th grade we suggest that your student also complete an additional semester of US History 1877 to present. If a student has done math, science, and English in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade they often have a lighter load in 12th grade. This allows them to easily add this additional semester of US History. The books used for US History 1877 to Present are the same books used in US History to 1877.

It is difficult to remove the Bible from the programs, though not impossible. Each program for high school is three credits, Bible, English, and history (government). The subjects are integrated together to most effectively teach Biblical worldview as a part of English and history. Our program allows the student to read through the entire Bible verse by verse in AHL and WHL.

MFW's recommendation is that 10th graders starting the program start with AHL. The history, Bible and writing all really build on one another. So just follow the sequence and then her Sr. Year you will want to add an economics course because that is included in the 4th year of MFW High School that you won't get to. That's not too difficult to fit in since a lot of kids won't have a 4th math or science class their Sr. Year. Our co-op will be using MFW and this is what we are doing with the 10th graders.

Dear Jennifer,

Christine's recommendations are pretty close to what we would say, except that when using Year 3 during the Sr. year you will complete all of the US History not just the first semester. You will not need to purchase Year 4 to do this since you will just complete the American History books used in Year 3 of high school following the same pattern in the Year 3 Daily Lesson Plans to complete the latter chapters in the book.

Please call our office at 573-426-4600 to speak with our high school specialist about this and other options for your 10th grader. He will find out a little more about what your 10th grader covered this year and give you some options for you to think about.

I understand that it's not what MFW recommends but two of my kids did this and it has worked out fine. They already had strong writing skills and had done Ancient History the year before with a different program. We jumped into the World History when my dd was a sophmore and my ds was a junior and they both did fine.

Thank you for the replies:)

We have chosen to start with the 10th grade program. We will be reading the first 10 units of Notgrass and expounding on that between now and fall. We are very excited:)

Decisions made are always a relief! And Jan's experience must ease your mind; I'm so glad we're starting to have some experienced MFW high school families post around here :)

I'd just keep an eye out over the next few years as to whether the kids have a thorough grounding in the topics covered in AHL (creation, the fall of man, how science compares to the Bible, how other ancient mythology compares to Biblical history, etc etc). You could always do AHL, or a resource from AHL, if you see a need.

Enjoy your emerging young people,

I have not started yet, as this would be the plan for next fall. However, we have discussed going ahead and doing AHL after all. The plan is to just start in the summer and get through a good portion of it, then move straight to 10th grade when we finish. The more I have looked into AHL, I really do want her to have that grounding in the ancients. I will let you know what I decide and how it goes! I do know several local people who have used AHL and they really do LOVE this program. Honestly, I have yet to hear anyone who has NOT loved it!! That is a good thing:)
