I just had my kids make one for the Hykso's war too. They enjoyed it. I had them label them and then covered them in contact paper like our other timeline pieces. Any way you chose to make it is fine.

Happy CTGing!

When we did CTG we made "Bible costumes" which were simply solid color, no pocket, XL mens crew neck tee shirts. We sewed some sort of fringy trim (like you'd see on some furniture) on the hems of these shirts. We used additional ropey trim to tie around our waists. Very simple costumes but they actually look nice (still in the dress up box). We found the trim in the clearance shelf of the Walmart fabric department, so it didn't cost a lot.

We made the black hair wig using yarn. It's silly looking.

Hykso's invasion

CTG - In Week 11 the year in the TM for Hykso's invasion (timeline) is 1876BC.
In Streams it is 1785 BC.
In Ancient World it is 1720 BC.
On the web I found it ranging from 1500's on up.

What year did you use for the timeline?

Please share,
Terri

Well… when we did CTG a few years back, it said that was an advanced assignment for making that timeline piece, so we skipped that part.

So… in 2 years when we do CTG again, what do I think I will do? Make a piece, put it between the Israel in Egypt piece and the Moses in a basket picture and write the dates as 1785 -1580 BC based on information on page 49 of Streams of Civilization. It doesn’t define when they first invaded, but it outlines when the Hyksos ruled Egypt. I think that's the emphasis I'll have my kids consider.

hmmm, I wonder if the TM just transposed the numbers a bit? 1876 1786 hmmm?

updating 2 years later..... Oct. 7, 2009

well... now I think the date of 1876 is not intended to be the Hyksos invasion l... It's for the other timeline piece that day. and the date is on the wrong line in the grid. It's for Israel in Egypt.
so, I made a quick timeline piece (just a rectangle with the words Hyksos Invade Egypt, and just put the piece next after Israel in Egypt. I'm thinking today I might go and write the date from Streams on it and say circa 1785 BC. (I love using circa for some of these things.... )

This is the link to my blog post about Week 10: http://rachelsreflections-rachelt.blogs ... ek-10.html
There is a photo of our science experiment where we "made rain" in the kitchen, over the stove. We also made some cool clay pots and they are pictured as well.

Here is the link to the post about Week 11: http://rachelsreflections-rachelt.blogs ... -2010.html
The dried pots are shown with more detailed photos. There is also a photo of some obelisks that my daughter drew - in honor of our dogs! :-)

Since we are done with our readings out of Genesis and are moving into Exodus, I wanted to do a review of all the things that have happened in the book of Genesis. So I had my kids make an acrostic and we used the letters to briefly recap the subjects we covered. I'll type out what we came up with for Genesis.
G - God created the heavens and the earth
E - Eve was deceived
N - Noah built the ark
E - Everyone built the tower
S - Sarah and Abraham left Ur
I - Isaac and Rebekah had twins
S - Severe famine in the land

We enjoyed talking through all that we have learned and finding ways to summarize it.
