CTG book ideas, favorites

My Father's World uses a Book Basket method to develop a love of learning and enrich all subjects; Independent Reading Time has different goals and methods but there is overlap in book lists and helpful hints

If your student did not read it during Creation to the Greeks it may be a book that they would enjoy reading at any time since as Sandi mentioned it is a good book.

You may also hold on to it as an additional book to read during the first year of high school, Ancient History and Literature. This is on the suggested book list for additional reading during that year.

Hope that helps!

Yes, it is fairly difficult to find good stories set in ancient times without bringing in some questionable topics. That's my guess as to why there are fewer history-related recommendations in CTG than other years. Another possibility might be that there are just fewer books set in those time periods.

* You can follow the lead of CTG read-alouds (by Patricia St. John) and just take this year to read various good stories unrelated to history.

* You could use the list of classics in the back of the manual or other books you might have on your shelf.

* You could use books from ECC or other manuals you have on hand, if you didn't get to reading all of them.

* I know my son enjoyed reading funny stories one year, such as Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle and Pippi.

* Here are a few threads that might give you some ideas, too:
