Solomon's Jewels

Though I am not particularly crafty, MFW has helped me in this and last year during "J" for Jewel in MFWK I found these little packages in the walmart craft section of plastic jewels which we used then, and I saved the rest. Only about $2or$3. For us not naturally crafty people, this is a find! We used them in Grace's bible notebook for drawing of Solomon. Just drew a big pic of his face with a huge big crown and Grace covered it by gluing these jewels all over. (they are of course, flat on one side)

Also took card stock cut into strips and stapled together to fit around her head for simple "crown" and glued jewels on as well as smaller ones for bracelets for both herself, me and Luke and anyone else in the neighborhood she could think of. Luke was all into this too. Later, we used the jewels to work on subtraction as a tangible aid. Had jewels all over the house!! Fun!

Bible Notebook - Fire from God (Elijah)

Unread post by undivided heart » Fri Feb 29, 2008 10:15 pm

A quick and easy idea to bring the fire to life a little more in the pic of story of Elijah and the fire from God on altar.
I used aluminum foil and let both Grace and Luke (age 3 - this was easy and fun for him too) tear it into relatively small pieces, and glued it on their already drawn pic of Elijah's altar. They glued them all the way to top of page to show fire coming down from sky. Then, they colored the foil with permanent markers of red, orange and blue (Luke used a little purple too!) which they both seemed to like the "feel" of b/c it is a different sort of smooth texture. We hung these up on our "line" across our dining room windows and the light really shimmers on it and gives it a neat catch your eye look. A good conversation starter when we are eating!

Unread post by Mom2MnS » Sun May 04, 2008 1:55 pm

Here are the things we did for 100 day this year...

:> graphed 100 beads, and then made a string for our art board with divisions by ten

:> decorated the number 100 (printed in bubble letters) with stamp art and pompoms

:> made a list of 100 things we are thankful for

:> played "roll 100" dice game

:> made 10x10 trail mix - ten pieces of each of ten ingredients (popcorn, pretzels, better cheddars, cheerios, kix, marshmallows, chocolate morsels, pecan pieces, honey graham bees, raisins)

Bible Notebook - David & Goliath

Unread post by martinmcash » Tue Jul 28, 2009 11:20 am

I'm really proud of my son. His Bible Notebook for today was about David and Goliath, here's his entry: Goliath laughed at God. David trusted God. David won the battle. And his picture is David with his slingshot, a stone hitting Goliath, him falling down and a bubble caption above David's head with GOD written in it and four stones laying next to David. I can't believe it, but my son taught me the Bible today :D. This is why we home school. Thank you Father for teaching me through my children.

MFW 1st - Math 100 Chart

Unread post by TriciaMR » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:12 am

Not sure what we're going to do for our 100 party, yet... Haven't told the kids about it yet. Maybe we'll string Fruit Loops or 100 stickers or something. Ohh, I still have our pegs from the preschool program, maybe well stack those in 10's and such by color and do some fun things with those (the boys LOVE the pegs from that program, and even though they don't play with them much these days, they still won't let me sell them).

MFW 1st - Math 100 Chart

Unread post by jasntas » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:32 am

This year for our 100 day 'party' we did a trail mix type of snack with 100 pieces of whatever the dc wanted to add from the choices I gave them. Such as pop corn, peanuts, m&m's, raisins, etc. But they had to be in even intervals. For instance, if they picked 4 items they had to choose 25 of each item. Not 99 m&m's and 1 peanut. ;)

Money was sort of our theme for our 100 day celebration so we did the money game in the Big Book of Math with the 'die'. I also went to the bank a few days before and got enough of every coin to add up to $1.00. 100 pennies, 20 nickels, 10 dimes, 4 quarters, 2 half dollars, 1 dollar coin. Then we all counted them together to see how each group of coins can add up to $1.00. We also have a DVD on money that they watched that day as well. (We have The Munchkin Math Telling Time DVD. My dc enjoy this one better than the Rock n' Learn DVD on money.)

Oh, and we also had pajama day that day. The pub. school around here has pajama day the last day before Christmas break so my dc were wanting to have a pajama day, too. So I killed 2 birds so to speak. The funny thing is that after lunch my ds decided to get dressed. I think he felt a little strange in his p.j.'s all day. (We normally don't get started until everyone is dressed with teeth brushed, hair combed, face washed and beds made.)

HTH. :)

Week 25 - Water Power

Unread post by TriciaMR » Wed Mar 16, 2011 5:27 pm

If you don't have the supplies to do the "Water Wheel" in MFW 1st for this day, then be creative! We don't buy eggs that come in styrofoam cartons, and I figured those recycled paper ones would fall apart. So, we used plastic Easter eggs from last Easter (funny how those never really disappear)... See my blog for photos, http://school4us-school4us.blogspot.com ... w-1st.html. You might be able to use small Dixie cups, too...

My boys really love the hands-on activities, so I try to do them. My oldest said it looked like a Ferris wheel or some amusement park ride!

Ideas for Math - One Hundred

Unread post by family4God » Thu Apr 12, 2012 3:28 pm

Another great idea is to read Psalm 100 and listen to the song from seedsfamilyworship.net, Seeds of Worship Vol 3 CD song called "Shout" which comes from Psalm 100.
