Help with 7th grade Apologia General Science

Unread post by klewfor3 » Fri Oct 21, 2016 12:09 pm

My son is having a tough time in General Science. He told me he doesn't feel like he is getting it all by just reading the text. He missing the "teaching" aspect. He is struggling.

Any suggestions? I looked at Apologia online and found classes that you can download but it is really expensive. Has anyone used the CD? Are there DVDs? That would be better.

Thanks,
Kathy

I have used the audio CD (mp3) with my 7th graders, or I have read it aloud to them and helped them as needed. So that could help. I also got the Student Notebook (Christian Book Distributors is the least expensive place to buy it from ). It has places to take notes, answer the On Your Own questions, and do the Study Guide at the end of each module. Plus a section to hold the labs. The Student Notebook really helps my kids.

However, he might not be ready. Some people wait until 8th grade. Others take 2 years to do General Science. Also, look at virtualhomeschoolgroup.org. Live-class registration has closed, but they have an At Your Own Pace course for General Science that may help. It has "lectures" to watch/listen to and quizzes and tests. You can also submit the labs to them for grading (even the AYOP - but it might take a while to get a grade back).

Thanks for the advice Tricia! I am not so good with the community lingo...what is AYOP? I will check out that website tonight. I think he really needs a teacher and I don't know that I can swing it.

Thanks again!
