Prayers appreciated

Unread post by bethinga »

Hi, all- I posted here before that my best friend of 11 years and fellow homeschool mom passed away from brain cancer in January. We’ve taken a lot of breaks this school year. I am keeping up with school, but merely checking off boxes. I’m so thankful to have the “grid” to carry me along when I can’t muster up the creativity myself. It has been a comfort. But, I miss the joy and excitement I used to have. I’d love you all to pray that my joy in homeschooling will return. I love this time with my children and want to make the most of it. Thank you. ❤️

Beth,
I will be praying.

During times of grief, you may just be able to tread water for a bit. Managing to keep yourself together through this time is an accomplishment in itself and also a gift to your kids -- one that may be even more important than joy.

But I will pray for joy, too :)

I'm not sure whether you saw the link shared on the MFW Facebook page this week, but Lisa Appelo is someone who has been a comfort to me during difficult years. I don't think you have to be in her exact situation to benefit from her heart of hope : https://vimeo.com/83687498

I will pray for you Beth. God is our comforter.

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

Hi, again- I would just like to ask for prayers for our upcoming homeschool year. We made a lot of sweet memories last school year. We took 1.5 years to complete RTR because we were schooling through grief. We completed RTR in February ‘20 and started Exp1850 at that time. Our summer break ends soon and we’ll start back with week 18, skip the state report and light Fridays, and hopefully begin 1850Mod by mid fall. I am struggling with feelings of sadness over the fact that this is our last year in the family cycle. My son will do 9th next year. If there was any way to keep us together I would, but doing CTG with my then 7th grade daughter is the best scenario I can come up with without changing curriculum, so at least we’ll be in the same time frame. I really don’t want to learn a different curriculum at this point. I need some prayer and encouragement. Still missing my friend so much. Thankful for the joy my family finds in the “middle moments” of schooling slowly.

My OP for some back story
viewtopic.php?t=15928
An update on my friend’s family: Their dad moved back to his hometown several states away. The girls were in a small Christian private school until COVID-19 quarantine. We get to see them once or twice a year. I’m praying they’ll get to keep attending that school in September because it was very good for them; but like most schools, that is uncertain right now. My kids have adjusted well and we’ve been able to keep up with a few friends during quarantine. My heart is still broken over the loss of my dear friend.

Beth,

I was thinking of you today and re-read your post. I'm so glad to hear about your friend's family, with the new Christian school and moving to a home town where they likely have a lot of support. I am sure your care and prayer are supporting them as well -- it's little things like knowing someone remembers you and understands your loss that make all the difference. The little things sent by God.

Praying for you as you prepare to march into a new school year.
