MFW book choices question

Unread post by momto3blessings »

Hi there,
We used MFW years ago when we first started out. I am looking at the possibility of coming back to it this coming fall. My question is about some of the more secular resources that MFW uses such as DK, Usborne, etc. What is the reasoning behind it? I am just curious as to why those books were chosen, specifically for history in the middle guides. I just want to make the best choice for my family and maybe if I understood the "why" behind those book choices it would help me to make a decision. Thanks!!

Welcome back! Glad you found the FAQ pages!

The primary text in Creation to the Greeks is the Old Testament, and the primary text at the start of Rome to the Reformation (RTR) is the Gospels. Then once biblical history is complete, Story of the World becomes central, along with Trial and Triumph to ensure that Christian historical events continues to be fully included.

Books from DK or Usborne are not central texts but do add colorful illustrations and details that may be left out of the primary texts. These books could be exchanged easily but often help bring stories to life with brief visuals.

If you have any further questions, feel free to reply. There are also conversations in the Message Board archives that may hold some gems.
